Progress Pride Flag Quilt

Progress Pride Flag Patchwork quilt

I’m very excited to have finished this patchwork Progress Pride Flag quilt. The pattern is by Bobbie Gentili from Geeky Bobbin. All of the fabrics are scraps from my stash.

This was a fun project and the finished quilt is really bright and colorful. As part of this process, I also enjoyed learning more about how the design of the Progress Pride flag came to be.

getting ready for the new year

September 16, 2009

(photo of chicken with za'atar baked by Marion from my recipe and appearing in today's Globe online) Rosh Hashanah begins on Friday evening.  I am hosting the  Friday night meal.  Here is the menu: Before Dinner: Round Challah (Charlie bakes the bread from this fascinating book) Apples (from Dowse Orchard in Sherborn) and Honey (fromRead More →

yes, I am working

September 9, 2009

Since Roxanne started Kindergarten a week ago I have been working every morning for three hours at a time. I really like the mixture of sewing and writing and I like switching between the two.  I've made over 20 birds and have written the entire front section of the book – the section with allRead More →

first day

September 2, 2009

Today is Roxanne's first day of Kindergarten.  I feel like this is the beginning of such a long and complex journey through what we hope will be at least a decade and a half of formal schooling. Teachers and homework, gossip and friendships, successes and heartaches, and everything else that comes with being in school.Read More →

back to reality

August 29, 2009

The day before we left for vacation the contact sheet from the photo shoot arrived in the mail. And my editor emailed me the edited version of a set of pattern instructions.  Armed with these two things, I can go right ahead and write the book. Yep, nothing else standing in the way.  Fortunately, weRead More →

fabric collage with handmade bird

August 22, 2009

I really loved Nicole's post about fabric collages using embroidery hoops.  A stretched piece of fabric is a lovely backdrop to sew all sorts of things to, including little soft sculptures.  I made one of these using a large embroidery hoop when I was working on my book proposal. Part of the proposal process isRead More →

lime rickey

August 20, 2009

We've been making a really good lime rickey here with Monin sugar free raspberry syrup.  Maybe you've seen Monin syrups at the coffee shop.  It is awesome to have them at home.  For the lime rickey juice a lime into a glass of ice, add a bit of syrup and fill the glass with seltzer. Read More →

Coloradotastic

August 9, 2009

I'm back from my trip to Colorado, and what a totally intense trip it was.  I left Wednesday in the early afternoon. The kids stayed at home with a totally enthusiastic and lovely Boston University graduate student (thank you, Marianne!) until Daddy came in from work and then Charlie took two days off and stayedRead More →

and I’m off

August 5, 2009

I made a new needle book for my trip. I have a bit of nervous energy and I felt like I couldn't bring my ratty old needle book from four years ago to Interweave.  I needed to spend time making a new one, full of felt flowers!  So here we go. I'm about to leaveRead More →
