Progress Pride Flag Quilt

August 13, 2022

Progress Pride Flag Patchwork quilt

I’m very excited to have finished this patchwork Progress Pride Flag quilt. The pattern is by Bobbie Gentili from Geeky Bobbin. All of the fabrics are scraps from my stash.

This was a fun project and the finished quilt is really bright and colorful. As part of this process, I also enjoyed learning more about how the design of the Progress Pride flag came to be.

ATC swap and a neat book

August 24, 2005

At the library the other day I discovered a children’s book I’d never seen before – “Bembo’s Zoo: An Animal ABC Book” by Roberto de Vicq de Cumptich. The author is originally from Brazil. All the illustrations in the book are made up of the letters in the word they illustrate. The only colors usedRead More →

Oven Mitt

August 22, 2005

Inspired by this these beautiful oven mitts, I took out my new Denyse Schmidt Quilts book and made an oven mitt. Charlie helped me pick out the vintage fabric for the outside and the white canvas lining. I enjoyed machine quilting it, too. I need to add a loop on one end so that IRead More →

Kangaroo

August 20, 2005

I finished the kangaroo from the Mabs Tyler book. She is made of wool felt and sewn on the machine. I made her a little garland of felted beads with seed beads on them, inspired by the garland here. Her joey is also wool felt and is hand sewn with embroidered details. He can eitherRead More →

Fabric

August 18, 2005

Lovely brown vintage-look fabric with apples and pears. Eiffel tower fabric that will make a lovely dress for a bear and some awesome polka dots. Look at that black and white one! This one is a larger print. I think it looks like an abstract cut paper collage. I think that one on the rightRead More →

ATCs, a new bear and a big box of scraps

August 17, 2005

Over the weekend I got a start at making some Artist Trading Cards (ATCs). I had a lot of fun cutting the selvedges off some of my fabric and incorporating them into designs with dots and birds. These are the two that I came up with. Since The Village Baby bought all my bears yesterdayRead More →

The Wild West

August 15, 2005

Here is my submission to Month of Softies for August. The theme was “The Wild West.” I made this horse from wool tweed. I’ve been inspired lately by some lovely soft toys I’ve see with exposed seams (like Mama Duck and, of course, the beautiful toys by Tamar Mogendorff). The pattern for the horse cameRead More →

Mini Me

August 12, 2005

Here is my apron for Tie One On. The theme this month is “mini me” and the assignment was to make two apons – one for yourself and one for someone “small in your life.” The tops are strip pieced and the ties are made from long hemmed strips of the white fabric. I kindaRead More →

Bears and Modhaus Boston

August 11, 2005

New bears. and the little girl on the back of the dress. There was an article in this morning’s Globe about modhause, a mid-century modern furniture and accessories store…in Boston! Charlie and I are always so frustrated reading Dwell and Modernism and Atomic Ranch because all the good stores are on the west coast. ThereRead More →
