Progress Pride Flag Quilt

August 13, 2022

Progress Pride Flag Patchwork quilt

I’m very excited to have finished this patchwork Progress Pride Flag quilt. The pattern is by Bobbie Gentili from Geeky Bobbin. All of the fabrics are scraps from my stash.

This was a fun project and the finished quilt is really bright and colorful. As part of this process, I also enjoyed learning more about how the design of the Progress Pride flag came to be.

bird 4

February 5, 2007

Bird #4.  This one has a shorter beak and legs bent in a different, hopefully more natural way (back first, then forward, and with a thicker knee joint).  She is a bit fancy with a gold crushed velvet head gusset and feathers and some dark brown wood-grained silk from a swap with Stephanie.

A third bird. This one is shorter than the rest and has blue eyes.  I loved using this vintage floral fabric for the wings, head gusset, and tail feathers.  Her legs are wrapped with strips of a thrifted pillowcase. I think I have the wire thing down now.  This ones legs were not frustrating toRead More →

bird 2

A second bird, this one with longer legs and a longer bill.  She’s quite tall.

January 29, 2007

I did some sketching of long-legged birds and made this bird. My first time working with wire and I was pretty frustrated Saturday night trying to bend it the way I wanted it to go and make the bird balance, but Sunday morning brought fresh energy and here she is.  And with an egg inRead More →

amy doll

January 26, 2007

I made this Amy doll from the Women’s Day Book of Soft Toys and Dolls by Joan Russell that Mimi lent me.  She is for my niece, Emerson, who will turn 1 on Valentine’s Day.  I seldom make toys from patterns, but this one was really interesting to do.  I like a pattern I canRead More →

lizard #2

January 24, 2007

I finished the pattern for this lizard and sent off both the owl and lizard patterns to the editor at Penguin Books today.  I am sort of happy that both toys that will be photographed for the book are made from the same two green fabrics, the lighter of which I dyed.  I think itRead More →

owls and connections

January 22, 2007

The green one with no feet and folded ears is the final version of the owl. I’m pretty excited that the pattern for this owl will be included in Softies, a book that will be published by Penguin Books and is due out in September of 2007.  I am working on a second pattern, oneRead More →

owl and a bit about the process

January 18, 2007

I’m currently working on refining this owl pattern.  Still a bit of tweaking to be done, but I’m getting there.  I first made this owl over a year ago and though I’ve made a few versions since then, I’m still happiest with the first one.  It was wool and had half moon eyes and aRead More →

dog

January 16, 2007

I finished this dog today.  The herringbone on his body is from a thrifted sheet I found this weekend.  It looks like wool, but its cotton.  Really nice stuff and it is a full-sized sheet so lots more left.  I attached his legs with double button joints – actually I had to attach his backRead More →

lizard

January 12, 2007

I made a lizard.  I dyed the lighter green fabric – it used to be pale yellow.  He’s a funny little guy. I’m getting ready to start making backdrops for my pieces to sit on. I’m thinking about covering boxes in fabric.  I’d like to keep things simple and let the pieces really show.  AndRead More →
