bird 4

February 5, 2007

Dscn0016_2

Bird #4.  This one has a shorter beak and legs bent in a different, hopefully more natural way (back first, then forward, and with a thicker knee joint).  She is a bit fancy with a gold crushed velvet head gusset and feathers and some dark brown wood-grained silk from a swap with Stephanie.

Ahh i was going to say I love the way you’ve done the legs on this one, and then i read your text. It does look heaps more natural, gives a totally different look – in contrast the others look more cute and comical whereas this one looks more realistic. What are your plans for them?

This bird is so beautiful – all grace and fragility. It’s been a pleasure to see you work through your toys, to see you and they develop, work through and find their own place and character. I hope that the show is a success for you.

*woof whistle* “Great legs!” i agree with lara, they look natural but I also like the others as well, it changes the “tone” of them if that makes any sense? hey, I have a stack of velvet samples that are too small for me to do anything with. I will bundle them up and send them over, seamail, so don’t hold your breath!

This one is so delicately regal. I love your use of velvet this time around.

I’ve been loving all your birds, but this one especially. I think it’s something about the head/beak, she looks very inquisitive in a birdy kind of way. Like she’s thinking “did that just move? can I eat that?”
But what’s with bird #4? I thought you just did 3s!

I keep loving every bird better than the last if that is possible, although I still have a soft spot for No 1. I think the change of legs does give it a different feel, more gentle and natural, rather than gangly and comical – both are great in their own way. Thanks for sharing your creative process with us, it is fascinating to see your designs evolve.

    Hi Abby

Trying to read some of your blog archives and the pictures don’t match any more! whatever you say in the text does not match with what is shown. Not sure if it’s evens out later on, or if it matters, but it’s a bit strange.

    Cheers,
    AJ

      Hi AJ,

Wow. So weird! It looks like in the migration some of the posts from February 2007 got misaligned. I’m so sorry! I’m not sure I can fix it. Weird!!!

Don’t worry about it, if it’s not an easy fix! As long as it eventually straightens out I’ll live with it. Occasionally it’s quite funny the mismatch.
