Progress Pride Flag Quilt

August 13, 2022

Progress Pride Flag Patchwork quilt

I’m very excited to have finished this patchwork Progress Pride Flag quilt. The pattern is by Bobbie Gentili from Geeky Bobbin. All of the fabrics are scraps from my stash.

This was a fun project and the finished quilt is really bright and colorful. As part of this process, I also enjoyed learning more about how the design of the Progress Pride flag came to be.

upcoming show!

March 23, 2010

I'm really excited to be in a show over the summer at Art Star in Philadelphia.  I'll be showing with two other women artists, Kate Durkin and Maggy Hiltner.  They both make 2-D artwork that incorporates embroidery and I'm really happy for this opportunity to get to know their work better, and thrilled to beRead More →

parrot (one more time)

March 18, 2010

For many years I have been a strong admirer of dollmaker Shelly Thornton.  What I love most about her dolls is their stuffed hair.  Take a look at this doll, Eva, and you will see what I'm talking about. Instead of making hair from traditional materials, like yarn or string or even torn fabric, sheRead More →

a parrot

March 11, 2010

I was at the local boutique earlier this week chatting with the owner, Victoria, about my birds and as we began to think together about a show/launch party in January, I saw her look over the dozen or so birds I had set up on her desk and say, "You like things toned down. Neutrals.Read More →

work

March 9, 2010

There have been just a few times since I started this blog five years ago in which my sewing work has taken me out of my home.  Most of the time it's just me, sitting upstairs in our bedroom with my headphones on, sewing for hours a day alone.  My interactions with people about whatRead More →

end of the week

March 5, 2010

Stella was sick yesterday and had been up crying with an aching ear most of the night before, which meant I was so tired yesterday that I could barely get around.  I love sleep and I am no good at all when I don't get enough of it. So we spent the day napping togetherRead More →

starfish

March 2, 2010

I made a felt starfish this morning. I have gotten a lot of suggestions to make a fish mobile.  My friend, Terrill, had the idea of adding a starfish and maybe a jellyfish.  I thought that would be cool so I made a felt starfish this morning. Thank you for all the great input onRead More →

thinking aloud about fish

March 1, 2010

I have been thinking about ways to sell my patterns on  my own. I could, for example,  put together a fish kit containing everything you would need to make and sew your own goldfish.  Inside you would receive my pattern and step-by-step instructions, plus all the materials to make your own fish except the threadRead More →

weekend activities

March 1, 2010

Saturday morning I took the kids on a hike through Broadmoor and we found this amazing tree that has been eaten away by a very industrious beaver. Stella was especially excited because she has an imaginary house, the "Swamp House," where all sorts of interesting things happen.  The Swamp House is painted green (her favoriteRead More →

let’s see

February 26, 2010

Random assortment of things going on in my life, as usual.  First, I was alerted last night that my owl is in this spread from the Spring issue of Small Magazine. I think I mentioned in my last post that I got an iPhone last week.  One of the (many) transformative aspects of this newRead More →

goldfish

February 23, 2010

I made a felt goldfish. I added some little orange seed beads to give him some sparkle, along with an iridescent tail.  Certain patterns I've made just really work well and this is one of them. I know it's a good one when I keep coming back to make more.  I love the big, bulgingRead More →
