penguin prototype and general goings on

September 8, 2006

Here is what is going on around here:

-Roxanne is totally potty trained and is now reliably pooping in the potty. Recent comments she has made about the look of her poop: “It’s so long!” and “It’s brown. It matches mommy’s shirt!” Ah, poop.

-Charlie and I went to the nursery school parent meeting last night. Roxy has a cubby. With her name on it. I know. I started crying, too.

-I have now lost a total of 20 lbs. since the beginning of July. For those of you who know me you know that I love food. Seriously. I love to eat and shop and cook. I think about breakfast at bedtime. I cook my family three complete meals every day (yep, I even pack Charlie a lunch and we have a sit down dinner in the dining room every night). And not just any food will do. I buy our meat at the butcher and our fish at the fish market. Food is a central part of my marriage. Charlie is on Chowhound looking for new restuarants every day. We’ve been known to spend the day hunting and gathering at Lebanese grocery stores and Asian markets. Cook’s Illustrated is one of my favorite magazines. Food is a huge part of my life.

But you know, I fit into my cute pants again. It’s all about the pants for me.*

– Simon is eating bananas and will sample some sweet potato this afternoon. I make all the baby food around here and I’m happy to be back in the baby food-making groove again. I love my food mill.

And, I made a new penguin pattern.

Penguin_without_scarf

He’s nice and columnar. I like his feet. I used classic penguin colors for this first one.

Here he is all ready for a winter outing

Changes for the next one:

-put some washers in the bottom before stuffing so he’ll stand upright more easily
-make his beak smaller

Thanks for all the nice comments about my doll in the last post. You all are the best.

Good for you on the weight loss! I just rejoined WW last week. Losing the baby weight for the third time around hasn’t been so easy for me.

You know, I am the very same way about food. I cook every night, even if not all three meals b/c right now it is just he and I. I have even turned my husband, who ate fast food three meals a day when I met him, into something of a food snob, even though he will never enjoy paying a lot for a meal. But he does love to eat at home now, and tries many many foods he would never have eaten when I met him and his Taco Bell-loving palate.
And I plan on making baby food and packing lunches and cooking breakfasts b/c that is what I love. And I also love WW, on which I once lost 30 lbs (and kept it off until pregnancy) because they let food lovers eat normal things and still lose weight.
I plan on using them again after my baby is born. Congratulations! and thanks for reminding me it can be done.
    Great penguin!

my all-time favorite poop comment was “look mommy! I made big poops and little poops. They’re swimming like fishies.”
I love the delight preschoolers take in everything..
    even poop
p.s. Josie’s been trained for about 18 months now and still wants me to check her poop out. Compliments are always welcome 🙂

Im sad to say I just left the baby food making era behind. My youngest is now eating everything we eat for the most part. I just dread putting my food mill away, so we still make lots of applesauce and sweet potatos with it. I can keep it around cant I? Love the penguin!!!
