Progress Pride Flag Quilt

Progress Pride Flag Patchwork quilt

I’m very excited to have finished this patchwork Progress Pride Flag quilt. The pattern is by Bobbie Gentili from Geeky Bobbin. All of the fabrics are scraps from my stash.

This was a fun project and the finished quilt is really bright and colorful. As part of this process, I also enjoyed learning more about how the design of the Progress Pride flag came to be.

Kids and Cross-Stitch

August 13, 2012

Our kids have daily and weekly chores. And they have an allowance. The two are connected, but not contingent upon one another. In our family when you start first grade you begin to take on personal and household responsibilities. Every morning, after you wash up and get dressed but before you come downstairs for breakfast,Read More →

Things I Love About Sewing: It Connects Me To History

August 12, 2012

This post is part of a series. Read them all here. Me in 1984. I spent six summers of my childhood at Camp Ramah in Palmer, Massachusetts. The first summer I was just turning 8 and was the youngest camper. Most of the kids in my bunk were from Massachusetts and the first question theyRead More →

This is post #4 in a series. See post #1 here , #2 here, and #3 here. Image of the American Series of figurines (1983-1985) from Red Rose Tea. I had every one of these as child. When I was seven my grandparents gave me a wooden printer's tray with a hook on the backRead More →

Things I Love About Sewing: You Can Make Something Useful From Nothing at All

August 10, 2012

This post is part of a series. See the first “Things I Love About Sewing” post here, and the second one here. I’m a coupon clipper. I cannot throw away the Sunday paper before going through all the circulars and cutting out the coupons. And then I go through the recycling bins (I found theseRead More →

Things I Love About Sewing: You Don’t Have To Follow The Rules

August 9, 2012

This post is part of a series. See the first "Things I Love About Sewing" post here. I learned to use a sewing machine in 8th grade Home Economics at Herbert Hoover Junior High School in Potomac, Maryland. For my final project I sewed a pair of Bermuda shorts with seams so wonky I gotRead More →

Things I Love About Sewing: It Makes Me Slow Down

August 8, 2012

This post is the first in a series. I am almost always in a rush and I'm pretty sure I always have been. My third grade teacher, Ms. Tishler, wrote on my report card in 1983 that I needed to slow down and stop handing in such sloppy work. If I recall, at that timeRead More →

An Owl Like My Own Handwriting

August 6, 2012

I spent most of Friday (my 37th birthday) making this owl. I haven't made an owl in many years, but I got a special request for one and thought it might be interesting to make one again. And it was. Looking at the pattern for this owl was like looking through an old diary fromRead More →

Shelley the Snail: A New Sewing Pattern

August 2, 2012

Look at me turning lemons into lemonade! I love Shelley the Snail. She's got a rainbow shell, and a pretty pink body, and look at those lashes! I even made her a best friend. And I here's a snail joke for you: "What did the snail say when she was riding on the turtle's back?"Read More →

I’ve been blogging here at While She Naps for over seven years. I started out posting about all kinds of random stuff that I would do while my baby napped. I was decorating cakes, making origami greeting cards, gardening, and sewing toys. You can read my second post ever right here (I’m so embarassed thatRead More →

On Rejection

July 31, 2012

You gotta dream big. I’m pursuing a career that I invented for myself. I design and sew stuffed animals. That’s a wacky profession, my friends. There is no path to follow, no boss to tell me what project to work on, no obvious next steps. It’s up to me to drum up business andRead More →
