Progress Pride Flag Quilt

Progress Pride Flag Patchwork quilt

I’m very excited to have finished this patchwork Progress Pride Flag quilt. The pattern is by Bobbie Gentili from Geeky Bobbin. All of the fabrics are scraps from my stash.

This was a fun project and the finished quilt is really bright and colorful. As part of this process, I also enjoyed learning more about how the design of the Progress Pride flag came to be.

Unicorn Puzzle Ball

March 13, 2015

I love softies that are interactive. The more they can pop up, flip around, or turn inside out, the cooler they are. Everyone wants to play with them, no matter how old we might be. A few months ago I created a book of animal puzzle ball toys for Annie’s that will be coming outRead More →

Studio Update

March 11, 2015

I have a few interesting things from the studio to share today. First, I have a project in the new issue of Mollie Makes (#51). At Thanksgiving an editor there emailed me asking if I might rework the flying squirrel pattern I designed for Wild Olive to create a clothes pin bag for laundry day.Read More →

Book Review: Stitch Love by Mollie Johanson

March 9, 2015

I bought Stitch Love because I’m friends with the author, Mollie Johanson of Wild Olive. I love Stitch Love because it’s a valuable and charming book that I’ll use for years to come. Mollie designs all sorts of crafts: embroidery patterns, printables, quilts, sewing projects, softies, and more. Her signature design element is a littleRead More →

The Etsy IPO Explained

March 6, 2015

Etsy sent out an email to all sellers on Wednesday stating that the company is going public. The Etsy Initial Public Offering (IPO) could take place as early as April, but we won’t know in advance the exact date or share price. I thought I’d take a look at what an IPO really is, howRead More →

Don’t Be Afraid of LinkedIn

March 4, 2015

Last week I mentioned on Twitter that I thought designers and crafters should be on LinkedIn. Almost everyone seemed to disagree with me. The overwhelming question was, “Why?” Why be on LinkedIn if you’re not looking for a job? Why have a LinkedIn profile if you’ve already got a website and a blog? I knewRead More →

Podcast Episode #44: Michelle Engel Bencsko and Gina Pantastico of Cloud9 Fabrics

March 2, 2015

Today on the podcast I’m talking with the co-founders of Cloud9 Fabrics, Michelle Engel Bencsko and Gina Pantastico. Established in 2009, Cloud9 is a leading source for organic cotton fabrics for home sewists. The base cloths of their fabrics is made from 100% certified organic cotton which is then printed with eco-friendly low impact dies.Read More →

Six Weeks of LOVE for Softies at Sew Mama Sew

February 27, 2015

I’m thrilled that Sew Mama Sew is spending the next six weeks focusing on softie sewing. Many softie makers, myself included, often feel a bit outside of the mainstream sewing community. We prefer sorta weird fabrics like fleece, minky, and faux fur. We get excited about safety eyes and poly pellets. We sew many tiny,Read More →

Why I Don’t Do Affiliate Marketing

February 25, 2015

Hi Abby, I am organizing an online creative business conference in May, and wanted to see if there might be a way for us to work together. We are looking for a few influencers to serve as advisers to the attendees. Advisers get a free pass to the event and advertising space in the conferenceRead More →

Tackling Tedious Sewing Room Tasks While You’re Traveling

February 23, 2015

I think this might look familiar. I’m betting you might have a tangled mess of embroidery floss in your sewing room, too. We should probably untangle that sometime, huh. And what about this? A bag full of assorted buttons given to me by my brother-in-law’s grandmother. Might be a good idea to sort those byRead More →

What’s Going on and Some Links

February 20, 2015

I’ve got a little update and a few things from around the web to share today. 1. Alicia Shaffer was on Good Morning America today. My post about Three Bird Nest has gotten a lot of hits. Here are some stats: That’s 10,397 pageviews on Wednesday, and 13,516 yesterday which is the most traffic myRead More →
