I love softies that are interactive. The more they can pop up, flip around, or turn inside out, the cooler they are. Everyone wants to play with them, no matter how old we might be.
A few months ago I created a book of animal puzzle ball toys for Annie’s that will be coming out over the summer. When we first began working on the book they asked me to come up with a list of animals. The editor accepted my whole list, except for the unicorn. She wanted an elephant instead.
The elephant was fun to make, but my 10-year-old loves unicorns (she walks around telling everyone, “Always be yourself, except if you can be a unicorn. Then be a unicorn.”)
So, with Annie’s permission, I’ve created a unicorn puzzle ball pattern to release on my own.
I made this little stop motion video so you can see how it works:
The pattern for this softie will be out on Wednesday. It’s actually really simple to sew. There are 12 separate segments that you assemble to create the three rings. Figuring out how to put the rings back together once you take them apart may be the hardest part, but it’s a puzzle after all! That’s the fun.
That’s brilliant!
Thanks!
How adorable and creative! Your book of puzzle ball patterns is sure to put a fresh spin on this unique form of toy. I love what your daughter says about unicorns – so cute!
Love that saying from your daughter- hilarious!
The stop motion video is so neat! My daughter is in love with all things unicorn and this puzzle ball will be a great birthday gift. I am looking forward to buying the pattern this week. All of your designs have such sweet faces —thank you for another wonderful pattern.
That is so cute and so clever, the little bit of fluff at the end of the tail is adorable! I love it.
Is something wrong on my end, the video is so fast it would be of no help putting it together?
No, nothing is wrong on your end. The video is very fast! It’s not meant to be instructional, just to show you that it can be taken apart and reassembled. In the pattern I show you step by step how to actually take the puzzle apart and put it back together again 🙂
I absolutely love things that have a dual purpose! Playing AND Thinking!!
A whole book of puzzle animals….wow!! Nicely done!
Thanks, Des! I’m excited for it!
Now this is just a perfect baby gift! I can’t wait to make it!!!
I’m thinking it’s not just perfect for babies… I know any number of geek girls who would totally buzz out over this. Is it Wednesday in Boston yet?
Aw, thanks. The puzzle is tricky enough to put together that I think older kids would definitely be intrigued by it.
