Progress Pride Flag Quilt

August 13, 2022

Progress Pride Flag Patchwork quilt

I’m very excited to have finished this patchwork Progress Pride Flag quilt. The pattern is by Bobbie Gentili from Geeky Bobbin. All of the fabrics are scraps from my stash.

This was a fun project and the finished quilt is really bright and colorful. As part of this process, I also enjoyed learning more about how the design of the Progress Pride flag came to be.

Make Your Own Weather Feltboard

April 14, 2011

My kids love to play school.  They sit all their stuffed animals in a row and teach them all kinds of things. Mostly they imitate their own teachers. In preschool and early elementary school the day seems to always begin with looking at the calendar as a class and then noticing the weather.  A fewRead More →

felt butterflies

April 10, 2011

I finished the felt butterflies for National Nonwovens' booth at spring Quilt Market. I made a second large one (12" across) and two smaller ones (6" across). This was such a fun project.  Butterflies are something I would never have thought to make without a special request.  When I opened the box of felt onRead More →

Learning Photography and Making Butterflies

April 7, 2011

This week I was in touch with National Nonwovens, wholesale purveryors of the lovely wool-blend felt I have been working with. You can buy their felt retail at Wool Felt Central. Melissa, felt-crafter extraordinaire, originally recommended their felt to me and I have loved working with it these past few months.  The colors are soRead More →

getting started

April 5, 2011

Thank you so much for your enthusiasm about my new book deal.  I could not be more excited. And a bit overwhelmed. I have a lot of work to do, but it is the very best kind of work and I am ready. Or, I should say, I am getting ready.  First, I have toRead More →

Elements of Soft Toy Design will become a book!

April 1, 2011

Editor's Note: This series of posts became a book! Stuffed Animals: From Concept to Construction was published by Lark Crafts in 2013. +++++ Two and a half years ago I was at Barnes and Noble with Charlie looking in the craft book aisle. I was looking for a book on soft toy design. I lookedRead More →

the penguin family is growing

March 31, 2011

Another member was added today.  I like playing with these guys.  You can put them in all different positions in relation to one another and make up little narratives. "Will these eggs ever hatch?" "I'm not so sure I want a sister or brother anyway."

the penguin chick

March 28, 2011

The penguin chick is done. I didn't make him fluffy, at least not yet.  My gray roving doesn't match my gray felt.  I think I like the unfluffly look anyway. Roxanne wants you to know that this adult penguin is not the same species of penguin as this chick.  She can identify every species ofRead More →

A family of penguins

March 24, 2011

I am working on a family of felt penguins for a group show I will be part of at bookhou in Toronto in July. The show will be called "Winged Migration" and will include work by Gennine Zlatkis, Abigail Brown, Margie Oomen, and Arounna Khounnoraj.  I'm very excited. I wanted to try making my birdsRead More →

Big Little Felt Universe

Book Review: Big Little Felt Universe by Jeanette Lim

March 23, 2011

I love house plants to death. I saw a beautiful jade plant at Trader Joe’s last year and brought it home to live on our kitchen table, under the window.  I admired it every morning at breakfast, I watered it frequently. Too frequently.  As its leaves began to drop off one by one I wasRead More →

CraftSanity Magazine is out!

March 22, 2011

Have you seen the second issue of CraftSanity Magazine?  It's beautiful. Jennifer Ackerman-Haywood of CraftSanity podcast fame has put together a truly fabulous magazine filled from front to back with projects.  Every page has something to create and Jennifer tests every project before the magazine goes to press so you can rest assured that theRead More →
