felt butterflies

April 10, 2011

Felt butterfly
I finished the felt butterflies for National Nonwovens' booth at spring Quilt Market. I made a second large one (12" across) and two smaller ones (6" across).

Felt butterflies

This was such a fun project.  Butterflies are something I would never have thought to make without a special request.  When I opened the box of felt on Friday I was nearly in tears. So much good stuff in there! Yards of soft, beautiful wool felt in all kinds of colors. And roving, too.  Yay!

Spaces are filling up for my bird-making workshop at The Button Box here in Wellesley on Saturday, April 30, from 10-4 pm.  We will be making the wren that is on the cover of the book and once you've completed the project you should feel ready to tackle any of the other birds that strike your fancy, or make your own bird pattern at home. I believe the cost for the workshop is $48 + materials. If you'd like to join us, give the store a call and reserve your spot 781-489-6515.

Josephine had her first taste of solid food this weekend. Some rice cereal and applesauce.  I make all the baby food for my kids which I really enjoy.  Everyone had some applesauce.  Homemade applesauce is just so good!  Josephine agrees.

What beautiful felt butterflies, and what a sweet baby! I plan to use more felt in my upcoming plushy projects. It’s just so fun to work with, and the results can be dramatic, like your butterflies. Thanks for the reminder! 🙂

I adore the butterflies. The wool is gorgeous and your designs are perfect.
Homemade applesauce…yum. I’m not sure if you get Lodi apples where you live but in Michigan they come in the fall and if you blink, you miss them. They are green like a granny smith but are inedible raw. When you cut them up you think there is now way these will make good applesauce because they are so mushy and feel very light for their size. Hard to believe but this is what you want. Cook them and something changes- magic happens-and they make the best apple-y tasting applesauce you have ever had.
I found them about 4 years ago when I noticed a woman hovering over a bushel basket and hoarding the apples. I had to ask her what it was and she shared this little secret apple with me. It is worth searching for them.

Cute baby for sure. I’ve already bookmarked that felt, and sent the link to a friend. Your butterflies show it off beautifully.

I love butterflies too! These are really nice.
I also made my kids weaning food…and to be truthful, some of the puddings also made it on to my plate! Yum! Although most of it made its way on to their faces, their bibs, their clothes, the highchair, the floor, any other furniture in the vicinity and across the room (if they had a sneezing fit!). Love the pics of your wee one. Dawn xx

I just got done making Monarch Butterfly Wings but never thought of using felt! This would have been so much easier and the results would have turned out much better. You’re wings look great.
