fluffed for softness

September 22, 2006

Making this elephant was like reading a really good book that you just don’t want to end.

Elephant

I was sad when he was done. It is so fun for me to play with fabric and shapes and to figure out how to make a little someone come alive.

Fluffed_for_softness

He’s got lots of text all over, including some I stamped, and some pieces of an ancient thrifted measuring tape sewn on his legs

Here was the initial sketch

and some other sketches I did last night.

I’ve started drawing Roxanne’s plastic animals recently – a great source of inspiration and basis for body porportions.

**Is anyone out there up for a special little swap? Here is what I need – fabrics and trims with text and/or numbers on them (in English). Little scraps or larger pieces are all fine. I want to make more animals like this elephant and I need more fabrics like these. If you have any and you’d like to donate them to the cause I will send you a lovely package of fabric, trim and buttons in return. Please email me at abbyglassenberg @ comcast . net and we’ll set it up. Thank you!

Shana Tova (Happy New Year) and have a great weekend, too.

you are a really good sketcher and it’s even more amazing that you can translate it into a 3-d creature. Sorry, no texty fabrics or trims. I wish!

I have some vintage flannel with apples on it that says “apples grow on trees.” I also have some vintage blue cotton with boats, palm trees, and waves that says ‘bon voyage’– not english, I know, but still. I’d be willing to swap some of each if you’re interested. The elephant is so cheerful!

I sent you an email because I need to know if corduroy is okay for fabric.
