at play

September 20, 2006

The last two days I’ve just been playing around with fabric. Maybe I’ll make a mermaid…or a spherical elephant…or figure out how to make a doll foot with darts…so the craft room is a big mess with scraps of fabric and freezer paper everywhere. Anyway, here’s a little something – baby toy? gourd?

Meanwhile Roxanne is adjusting to nursery school. She is so excited when we get there that she doesn’t even acknowledge my departure. When I come back to get her she has clearly had a full morning and is so ready to leave, tearily telling me, “I’m ready to go home. Mommy carry me!” When we do get home she wolfs down a huge lunch and then is so exhausted.

This week we are in part two of the three part phase in so she’s been going for two hours. Next week we start full speed – three hours three days a week. I can’t even tell you how freeing it feels to have that time in the morning without a two-year-old in tow.

We are getting ready for Rosh Hashanah here. In the next two days we have a challah to bake (with saffron and golden raisins I think), a brisket to cook (you do realized that thing has to cook for 3.5 hours!) and a honey cake to make. Lots of time in the kitchen for me.

That is just wonderful! I’d put that on my desk and stare at it a while. It seems so pleasing to the eyes. I wonder how you got those dents in there. If you added a rattle or bell inside it could be a very sweet baby toy.

I have to laugh at the theatrics of your little one. So Scarlett O’Hara, hand to forehead. And then, crash! Naptime. Gave me a good laugh, thank you!

Brisket, oh lord, that sounds good. I’m so bad in the kitchen so my partner will be the one slaving away in the kitchen…I’ll do the apples and honey and thats it, lol.

As a kid, I loved brisket. But I’ve given up red meat. Gosh, it’s hard to be Jewish and not eat brisket once in a while… Hope your High Holidays are happy!

    Hi While She Naps,
I looked everywhere to find your proper name but didn’t.
Anyway, I just want to tell you that I love your blog and how giving you are.
I spent the entire day last night going through it. I love it and I love your work.
You have inspired me to take up making dolls and toys again.
    Thank you so much,
I will check back again soon.
