all arms and legs

June 5, 2006

Okay, I’ve reworked the legs on my square lion (thanks, Charlie, for pushing me to try again) and I’m much happier with them. They are sturdier and I think they add more character to the overall animal.

Here’s the pile of arms and legs that didn’t work

and here is a front and side view of the final lion

I also decided that the greeting card I made (shown in the previous post) will work as a hang tag when I send this guy off to Plush You. I am working on another square lion now – this one in black and greens. I have plans for a third one in yellows and oranges (a truly lion-like lion) and then more animals for my Cube Zoo (that’s the name I’m using for this series, at least right now) – a bear with big furry ears and a muzzle and perhaps a bunny with a big cotton tail.

The charity auction was Saturday night and despite the fact that the event was held in a small tent in the pouring rain, my basket did pretty well. The auction was split in two – half silent and half live- and my basket was in the silent auction (which was such a relief to me because I hate having everyone’s attention drawn to me and was dreading the possibility of being made to stand up in front of everyone or wave or something when my item came up). Several women with children bid against each other and people seemed fairly taken with the little blue sock monkey. I think it was pretty good publicity and I would do something like it again sometime.

    Your lion is so cute!
I just wanted to let you know that I have received my trim swap goodies and I was blown away by your generosity. I’m particularly taken by the measuring tape ribbon. I’ve been seeing it around lately and covetting it dreadfully. Thank you so much.
I’ll be posting photos of it all in the next few days.
