The other day I asked on Twitter for suggestions for a new animal to make. I got lots of good ones, including a dragon, a monkey, and a beluga whale (that one came from my sister-in-law whose daughter loves belugas). Whales came up a few times and I decided to give it a try. I made a narwhal last summer and it wasn't too far from there to a blue whale.
Here he is belly up. I had a lot of fun stitching lines on his belly.
You are amazing with fabric! Adorable!
An orangutan. Or a kangaroo with a joey in its pouch. Or a dodo. Extinct animals arent off limits, right?
two of my favs are donkeys and llamas!
Ooh! I agree with Jodie – llama!!!
I’d like to see a Opposum and Raccoon
PLATYPUS!
I agree with SewLindaAnn – a ‘possum and a raccoon. I’d also love an armadillo!
Fabulous whale!
How about a bat-eared fox?
This whale is adorable! He has the cutest expression in his eyes! Love him! As for other animals, I love beaver stuffed animals and would love to see one that you made. 🙂
Javalina! They’re adorable little things, just don’t get downwind!
love your blog! always excited to see what you’ve created! the whale is fabulous- his expression is perfect.
i think a beaver would be neat, or a frog or crocodile?….
I just made a rhinoceros – my first ever 3D stuffed animal – inspired by your Elements post about underbody gussets. Have you ever made one (a rhino, that is)? I’d love to see how yours turned (turns) out. Lemme know 🙂
Oooh – very nice!
How about a fox? There’s been one hanging around our chicken coop at dawn and I LOVE that big bushy tail.
That whale is the perfect shape! How, oh how do you do it?
I don’t know if this would be off limits, but I’d love to see a mermaid…hey, it’s part fish, right? You’re so clever with your manipulation of fabric, and it does look like so much work goes into designing and the fabric choice. Wonderful!
Mermaids are pretty cool. I’m not much of a doll head maker. The face makes me nervous!
Good for you, Caren! I like rhinos and I’d like to make a rhino horn. It’s on the list now. Thank you!
A crocodile with a zippered pocket mouth is on the list. I need a white zipper with big teeth!
Opposum. Good idea. I made a raccoon once http://bit.ly/5HNTKK
Thanks for the suggestions!
llama! yes. i made a camel a long time ago. can’t be that much different.
The whale is wonderful. I am partial to dragonflies and damselflies.
a star nosed mole…
a rat – of course ! 🙂
Abby-
That is a fabulous whale. I recently made my first attempt at a stuffed animal. I made a few cute turtles from a book I have (the same one that had that little felt elf hat you made a while back). Daniel saw the turtles I made and instantly asked me to make him a whale (his fav animal). I would love any suggestions you have or a clue on how to make one. I looked online for patterns, but they were all just sort of flat on both sides. Yours has such lovely dimension!!

Bend the Rules Sewing – a great book! I know there are some good patterns available as PDF downloads by Etsy sellers. I would do a google search for "whale pattern Etsy" and see what you come up with!
I love the whale! You do amazing work! How about a puffin. They are so colorful and comical looking. I’d love to see what you could come up with for that funny little bird!
oooo, I love the idea of a puffin. But I have a soft spot for snails so that would be my choice. Or a fennec fox – their ears are wonderful!
What a friendly-looking whale! My friend K makes beautiful whales. You can see her etsy here: http://www.etsy.com/shop/fogandswell
I know whatever animal comes next in your menagerie will be wonderful.
Lovely! Thank you for the link!
Your whale is adorable. I really like the detail stitching on the belly.
How about an alpaca next?
I’d like him as a mascot…but keep making those birds…My neighbor loved seeing mine!
I’m a second vote for a sly fox. Cute softie foxies are hard to find.
can’t wait to see it!
I am just enjoying this amazing whale so much I can’t think of another creature right at this moment.
Absolutely beautiful. Colors, design, stitching – all perfect.
I popped over to check up on you and I am finding one beautiful creature after another!
adorable! llamas are all the rage in Japan at the moment, I would love a lesser known panda/red panda
Now i know that even whales look cute.Your work with fabrics is amazing.
Completely LOVE the whale! Have you done a camel? My fave animal. And donkeys.
