That’s Not a Bunny, That’s a Girl Dressed Like a Bunny

Here is Shoshanna. She is like her sisters, Sarah and Sonya, but different in one important way – she has ears. Bunny ears. Also, I made her some shoes. I like the little purple flower buttons on her shoes. Lucky girl. When I was outside taking her photo, I suddenly realized that perhaps I like her better without the ears – oh well. She’s still a cutie to me.

I also want to pay homage to a very trusty friend – my sewing machine. It’s a Bernette 330. I learned to sew in Home Ec. in the 8th grade. We made two projects – a pillow (mine was in the shape of a cupcake) and a pair of Bermuda shorts (which were actually trendy in the late ’80s, believe it or not). I got a C on the shorts because the seams were very, very crooked, but I wore them all summer long anyway. A few months later, I bought my own sewing machine with my Bat Mitzvah money. That was in 1988. I did no research before I bought it, I have no manual, I only have one needle and one bobbin. For nearly a decade, I couldn’t figure out for the life of me how to backstitch. One day, I was frustrated and was hitting random things on the machine when I pushed in the bottom nob and, wouldn’t you know, we were going backward! How handy.

Anyway, I had my Bernette serviced recently because when I unpacked it from the move, it didn’t work all of the sudden. The guy who worked on it said it is actually an awesome machine, with all metal parts, and it is really valuable now. Clearly, since I hadn’t had it covered, cleaned or serviced in over 15 years and it was running just fine until it got banged up in the move. I would really like to locate a manual for it, though, because I know it has powers that I haven’t tapped into.
