Rubber Duck Softie

March 8, 2012

I was giving Josephine a bath the other night and while we were playing with rubber duckies in the bubbles it occured to me that I should make a plush rubber duck. I did a quick search and it seems that there aren't very many plush rubber ducks around, but I think there should be! I decided to make one, and to write a pattern for it.

Rubber duck plush

And while I was there, I had to make him a pirate eye patch and a bandana.

The accessory possibilities for rubber ducks are endless. A birthday hat? A bonnet of flower petals? Seriously this could be fun. I'm not sure yet where this pattern will end up. I'd like to put in in my shop on Etsy and make it an instant download (maybe on Craftsy, too? Are you on there yet?). I will make it so that you can sell the ducks you make. And there would be a sheet of patterns for various accessories, too. Yes?

I would absolutely buy this pattern – this duck is adorable and I want one to play with right now 🙂 Awesome idea to add accessories!
… have to laugh that you call him a “plus rubber duck” as he is technically just a plush duck – no rubber about him 😉

I thought it was cute when I just saw the duck, but the bandana and eye patch are too much! Accessories are a great idea.

I would love this! My blog is lucky duck dreams and a rubber duck is my logo.

    What a cutie!!
And I think Craftsy is going to be great. And less work and fees than Etsy(at least for now).

I can’t believe you have to ask if we would like the pattern. That duck is so cute and so close to the rubber duckie that we have in the bath. I would love the pattern and the accessories too. Thanks for being willing to share your awesomeness.

Oh good! I'm so glad. I love them, too, and I thought a plush version would be hilarious.

    Dear Abby,
    Your patterns are all charming!
I apologize ahead of time, but am asking your help with a project involving your rubber duck softie pattern. You may be aware of Westminster Crackers, that are often served in restaurants. There is a small annual Cracker Festival in Westminster MA in Oct. and many citizens and businesses create “Cracker Characters” to display around town to celebrate the festival. I am representing a town council that supports the arts in our town, and am making a display with 1 large and 2 small cloth ducks on our library lawn to raise awareness of our tax-funded group. I am making all three ducks, (they will be the Westminster Quackers!) and would love to use your rubber duck softie pattern for the two smaller ducks. However, I am doing this project all with donations. Is there any way that I could have permission to download your pattern for this project at no cost? We will be happy to credit your pattern in the display which will be on our town library lawn. Thank you for your consideration.
