repurposed wool hat

November 30, 2010

I made this elf hat from a pattern in Bend the Rules Sewing, except I added a lining.

DSC_0006

The striped wool was one of my favorite maternity sweaters. I wore it when I was pregnant with Roxanne and Stella, but when I pulled it out of the bag of maternity clothes from the attic to wear this time around I saw that it had gotten little moth holes in it.  I felted it in the washing machine and cut the pattern pieces from the parts of the sweater that were still intact.

The lining is a super soft brown fleece I found in the remnant bin at Jo-Ann's.

I made a wool flower from this tutorial by Betz White and added a vintage turquoise button in the center to match.  I'm not sure yet who this hat is for. I'll have to try it on all the kids to see who it fits.  Then there will be demands for a hat from the other one, but that's okay. This hat came together in under an hour and it's so warm. It would be my pleasure to make another.

    Hi-
I love that hat. I have that sewing book, so many cute projects. I love the 3 pillows. Anyway, I remember that sweater from when you were pregnant with Roxanne!
Good luck with #3, I can’t wait to hear the news!
