Did I mention that I wrote a book?

November 30, 2010

Friday around noon we opened the front door to head out to a neighborhood restaurant for lunch and there on the porch was a FedEx package from Interweave. I excitedly tore it open because inside was the advanced copy of my book, The Artful Bird: Feathered Friends to Make and Sew!

Book1

It is hard to describe what it felt like to finally hold it in my hands.  All the time, energy, and creativity that went into creating this book, not just on my part but by the whole team at Interweave that put it all together.  It is just an amazing thing.

And look what's in there!  Step-by-step instructions with photos showing how to make birds, including inserting the wire for the legs and feet.

Book2

Sixteen bird projects.

Book3

And Q & A interviews plus photo galleries of the work of four of my favorite fabric bird artists: Ann Wood, Abigail Brown, Jennifer Muskopf and Tamar Mogendorff!

The Artful Bird is available for pre-order now, and will hit bookstores mid-January.  From a nugget of an idea nearly two years ago, to a real 160 page book, it has been an incredible journey.  Hooray!

Oooh! Lovely! This book has been on my Amazon wishlist since the day you told us about it (and my wonderful daughter let slip that it will be my slightly late Christmas present from her). Can’t wait. Congratulations and best wishes for a good birth and healthy baby girl.

Abby, so many people know how much I love your birds – so i have had about ten emails telling me about pre-ordering…LOL.
I’m wondering if you will offer some signed copies – or even signed bookplates we can affix ourselves, over here on the other side of the world.

I was going to ask Santa for this book but I guess I am going to have to preorder it myself. I was hoping on sewing for Christmas! Congratulations.

I'm sorry it is not out before the holidays, but maybe mid-January is better anyway when things are a bit quieter? Thank you so much for your support!

My friend and I have been anxiously awaiting for its release. The birds are so unique and different in their design. Between the cover and the peeks inside, it looks like this is going to be one of my favorite books.
