Progress Pride Flag Quilt

Progress Pride Flag Patchwork quilt

I’m very excited to have finished this patchwork Progress Pride Flag quilt. The pattern is by Bobbie Gentili from Geeky Bobbin. All of the fabrics are scraps from my stash.

This was a fun project and the finished quilt is really bright and colorful. As part of this process, I also enjoyed learning more about how the design of the Progress Pride flag came to be.

Sock Monkey Workshop at Gather Here

August 30, 2011

On Thursday evening, September 22, I will be teaching a sock moneky class at Gather Here in Cambridge, MA. Easy and quick to sew and universally loved, sock monkeys are a great softie to know how to make. And you can embelish them endlessly. I made mine a little nautical skirt with a metallic buttonRead More →

vacation was awesome

August 30, 2011

We were away last week, staying at my friend Jessica's house in Wareham. This is our third summer staying at her house and it is always amazing.  Right on the water with a huge porch ideal for spending long hours gazing at the boats and the birds and napping with a sea breeze. With ourRead More →

I had to make some more. In lots of colors. So much fun, and a little addictive.  These will be at Art Star in Philadelphia beginning in October as part of their yearly collection and sale of handmade ornaments by indie crafters.  If you'd like to make a bird, too, my tutorial and pattern areRead More →

Little Bird in Flight: A Free Sewing Pattern

August 16, 2011

I made a little felt bird in flight and I thought you might like to make one, too. These birds are pretty as ornaments for the holidays, or make several and hang them from a branch to make a mobile. They’re pretty simple to make with a few scraps of felt and some embroidery floss,Read More →

hello and a shop update

August 11, 2011

I've had several visitors in my studio recently and let me tell you it is getting harder and harder to make it look neat and tidy in there.  Charlie went to open the blinds yesterday morning when we woke up and six toys fell on the floor. (Keep in mind that when I say studioRead More →

36

August 3, 2011

This is me, the summer of 1979, just before my 4th birthday. Today is my 36th birthday. Roxanne and Stella marched down the stairs this morning holding a homemade banner atop two wooden skewers (They originally taped the skewers on upside down and I was called in yesterday to fix it without looking, which IRead More →

bird workshop was awesome

July 29, 2011

I spent Wednesday evening at Gather Here in Cambridge sewing birds with 8 lovely women (and one awesome 10 year old).  Gather Here is an incredible place. If you live in or near Boston I highly recommend a visit. I need to get back there for some hardcore shopping. Virginia and Noah have pulled togetherRead More →

Book Review: Nancy Zieman’s Sewing A to Z

July 26, 2011

My mom doesn't sew. Neither did my grandmother. Growing up I never wore a handmade garment of any kind. There was no fabric stash in my house and nobody mended clothing or knit sweaters. My mom is artistic and certainly encouraged all of us to pursue our own projects, but she didn't know how toRead More →
