Progress Pride Flag Quilt

August 13, 2022

Progress Pride Flag Patchwork quilt

I’m very excited to have finished this patchwork Progress Pride Flag quilt. The pattern is by Bobbie Gentili from Geeky Bobbin. All of the fabrics are scraps from my stash.

This was a fun project and the finished quilt is really bright and colorful. As part of this process, I also enjoyed learning more about how the design of the Progress Pride flag came to be.

An interview with Ikea soft toy designer Annie Hulden

September 26, 2011

For a long while now I have been thinking about how commercially produced stuffed animals are made.  More specifically, I have wondered how the sewing patterns for these toys are created. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not interested in having my own designs mass produced. I’m all about making each toy one at a timeRead More →

How to Make a Hobby Horse

September 20, 2011

I have wanted to make a hobby horse for a long time. I searched around a bit for online tutorials and there didn't seem to be much available so when Kathreen asked me to create a guest post for Whip Up I thought this would be the perfect project.  My kids are begging to playRead More →

Using my X-ACTO knife to make a cutwork felt butterfly

September 19, 2011

Recently I got an email from the folks at X-ACTO asking if I would test out a knife and give a few away.  I use a craft knife fairly often in my work and I know you all probably do, too. I thought we all might like a few fresh knives to work with soRead More →

Looking to Interview a Toy Designer

September 17, 2011

I have a burning question and I thought perhaps one of you may have a lead for me.  I want to be in touch with a product designer at GUND or another similar company that manufactures and sells stuffed animals.  I feel like I could learn so much from hearing about their process, how theyRead More →

Felt Leaf Garland for the Sukkah

September 13, 2011

When we were searching for a home to buy back in 2005 finding one with a patio where we could put up a sukkah was one of our key requirements (along with a dining room large enough to host a seder). We’ve put up a sukkah here every fall, two years ago transitioning from aRead More →

apple picking

September 13, 2011

We went apple picking on Sunday. Last year we tried to pick apples at our favorite spot, Dowse Orchard in Sherborn, only to get there and have the orchards closed for the season. Going early this year meant trees laden with Macs and the promise of going again in early October for some other varieties.Read More →

Hemostats Explained

August 31, 2011

Hemostats are my very favorite softie making tool. Also known as surgical forceps, hemostats are a wonderful tool for easily turning softies right side out and for stuffing them firmly. I use my hemostats so much that I've developed a callus on the forefinger of my right hand! In this short video I demonstrate howRead More →

first day of school

August 31, 2011

Today is Stella's first day of Kindergarten and Roxanne's first day of second grade.  The first day of Kindergarten gets me every time. It's the first day of what will hopefully be nearly two decades of formal education. Twenty years of being in classrooms with peers, looking around at them and what they are doing,Read More →
