Progress Pride Flag Quilt

August 13, 2022

Progress Pride Flag Patchwork quilt

I’m very excited to have finished this patchwork Progress Pride Flag quilt. The pattern is by Bobbie Gentili from Geeky Bobbin. All of the fabrics are scraps from my stash.

This was a fun project and the finished quilt is really bright and colorful. As part of this process, I also enjoyed learning more about how the design of the Progress Pride flag came to be.

Why Every Customer is Important

September 10, 2013

Imagine you own a brick-and-mortar shop. You sell craft supplies and you’ve spent a good deal of time carefully selecting your inventory and arranging the shelving system. Your shop looks great and you’re really proud of it. It’s a Saturday afternoon and there’s a good crowd browsing and shopping. A woman comes up toRead More →

3 Interesting Soft Toy Books from the 1980’s

September 5, 2013

I collect vintage soft toy books. I have about two dozen titles and I acquire new ones when I find them. A new-to-me softie book is like a new-to-me sewing blog. First I spend some time doing background research. Who is this author and how did she get into designing toys? Then I read theRead More →

What Does “Handmade” Mean?

September 3, 2013

*A week after this post Etsy changed its definition of handmade. I wrote a second post about the new policies which you can find here. **After I wrote the post about Etsy’s new policies, Etsy got in touch with me and that led to a podcast interview with Etsy which you can find here. ItRead More →

Book Review – Sewing School 2: Lessons in Machine Sewing

August 30, 2013

Sometimes a single image can have a transformative effect on your life. At least it can on mine. My older daughters are now 7 and 9-years-old. They are aware of what I do, that I sew and write books and write a blog. They come into the studio while I’m working and ask, “Can IRead More →

Why You Should Create Projects for Magazines

August 26, 2013

I have a pattern in the newest issue of Sew-It Today magazine. This pattern is three little easy-to-sew felt animals: a bear, a bunny, and a kitty. This issue hits newsstands next week and I’m super excited that my project is on the cover!   I like Sew-It Today because it gets down to businessRead More →

Let’s Talk Process: A Blog Hop

August 22, 2013

Today I'm excited to be a part of a blog hop all about the design process. Eight designers have come together to talk about how we turn new ideas into new things. Designing is a highly personal process, and it's somewhat mysterious, too. It's really special to have this chance to show you how itRead More →

Guess what? The final Six Months of Softies pattern is here! 10 Podcasts to Listen to While You’re Crafting

August 19, 2013

Charlie gave me an iPod for my birthday six years ago and I cried when I opened it. “I don’t have time for this! Why would you think I would ever be able to listen to something on headphones when I’m home taking care of little kids?” I rolled my eyes, crossed my arms, andRead More →
