Progress Pride Flag Quilt

August 13, 2022

Progress Pride Flag Patchwork quilt

I’m very excited to have finished this patchwork Progress Pride Flag quilt. The pattern is by Bobbie Gentili from Geeky Bobbin. All of the fabrics are scraps from my stash.

This was a fun project and the finished quilt is really bright and colorful. As part of this process, I also enjoyed learning more about how the design of the Progress Pride flag came to be.

Zoe: A Cloth Doll

February 12, 2009

Last night I couldn't resist the urge to  make a doll. Meet Zoe. I first drew up the pattern for this doll nearly two years ago and I always liked her. What a fun project! I love picking fabrics and embellishments for dolls. The choices are nearly endless. Zoe's dress is a lovely green vintageRead More →

An Owl for Lisa

February 11, 2009

Today I finished an owl I made for Lisa. About a month ago Lisa took more than 300 amazing photos of my birds and I made this owl for her as a way of saying thank you.  I hope she likes it. Besides being a incredible photographer, Lisa now has her own Etsy shop whereRead More →

woodpecker

February 5, 2009

With spring on my mind I made a little woodpecker.  She is affixed to a little wooden plank. I drilled three small holes at the top, as though she has already begun her work. She is now listed in my shop.  There are lots of birds available, and many with new lower prices.  I hopeRead More →

a pea chick

February 2, 2009

Let's see. This bird started out as something else entirely (this is often the case with me).  I saw a little prop in a photo in a catalog a few days ago (was it Urban Outfitters?  Anthro.?  I can't remember now).  A little quail-like bird with no feet.  I clipped it out and then dugRead More →

crows and a close

January 30, 2009

A murder of crows.  There are two more in flight above them. These bring me to the end of my work for Young Blood.  18 birds made over the last four months.  This is our dresser this morning. Wading birds waiting to be affixed to their driftwood bases. Owls and a peacock looking around theRead More →

Pink Bird

January 28, 2009

My sewing machine is fixed and back home where it belongs.  And it works so well now!  Wow. Smooth operating.  I hadn't even realized that it needed to be cleaned and oiled. Last night Charlie was out late at a meeting and I made this bird. I have been using the same color palette ofRead More →

mushrooms

January 23, 2009

Well, good news from the Sew and Vac repair guy.  Seems there is quite a bit of thread and other detritus caught behind the bobbin case and the machine desperately needs to be oiled.  He will take it apart and clean it all out, oil it and put it all back together for me.  IRead More →

Softies Only a Mother Could Love

January 22, 2009

Many of you may remember the two beautiful books put out by Penguin Australia – Softies and More Softies. I was honored to have two patterns published in each of these amazing books, and they really are amazing.  Great photography, adorable patterns by some terrific and inspiring artists and soft toy makers, and just soRead More →

Wool Stuffing and a Tall Wading Bird

January 22, 2009

Let’s see.  My big 6 lb. box of stuffing arrived from the Amish, much to my delight. And right in time to finish up the 16th bird for my show at Young Blood. Promptly upon finishing this bird my sewing machine began making an odd chugging sound and then stopped working all together.  I tookRead More →

Professional Photos of my Work

January 16, 2009

My awesome friend, Lisa Roy Sachs came over yesterday for two hours while our kids were at nursery school and photographed my birds.  Lisa has an incredible, creative and fresh eye and it was so exciting to watch her work.  And the photos are amazing.  Here is a little taste, but there are 344 ofRead More →
