Progress Pride Flag Quilt

Progress Pride Flag Patchwork quilt

I’m very excited to have finished this patchwork Progress Pride Flag quilt. The pattern is by Bobbie Gentili from Geeky Bobbin. All of the fabrics are scraps from my stash.

This was a fun project and the finished quilt is really bright and colorful. As part of this process, I also enjoyed learning more about how the design of the Progress Pride flag came to be.

lion

September 28, 2010

I finished this lion yesterday afternoon.  I got really into the methodical process of sewing the mane onto his head.  And tying each french knot for the whiskers. He will be part of the group I send to gallery hanahou later this year.  I love making the wool felt animals.  Seeing them standing on myRead More →

make a paper mache etrog for Sukkot!

September 22, 2010

Tonight the Jewish holiday of Sukkot begins.  This is the sixth year that we have built a Sukkah on our patio.  We got a new Sukkah-building kit this year from here.  The boards of our old model had become warped and it was always rather fussy to put together.  The new one is very easy,Read More →

pink kitty: a journey

September 21, 2010

The day we brought Stella home from the hospital, in late April of 2006, my mother-in-law gave her a pink kitty stuffed animal.   We carefully put it beside her in her bassinet.  As you can see, at that time kitty was bigger than she was. Kitty stayed in the bassinet and then moved to Stella'sRead More →

it’s been crazy

September 17, 2010

This week has been really crazy.  Over the weekend I developed a seriously itchy rash all over my pregnant belly and my back. It turned out to be PUPPP. I have never been so itchy in my life and it seemed according to the dermatologist that I would have the rash until delivery, which isRead More →

Happy New Year to you and yours!

Labor Day weekend

September 7, 2010

We spent the long weekend in Old Town Alexandria, VA, for my sister’s wedding. The weather was incredibly good.  The morning of the wedding we had some free time and headed over to Arlington National Cemetery to visit some presidential grave sites.  Roxanne was very excited to find William Howard Taft.   She remarked thatRead More →

a beautiful fall collection by La Pomme (and a giveaway!)

September 2, 2010

For several years I have admired the beautiful work of Apol Lejano, a French designer and mom who blogs at La Pomme.  Her work combines vintage materials with a modern edge and is a pleasure to look at.  Plus, she likes birds, so we have an immediate affinity. Apol and I have become blog friendsRead More →

two accomplishments

September 1, 2010

Today is Roxanne's first day of First Grade!  New shoes, new dress, hair trimmed and ready to go. And I am off to the post office to overnight the author's proof of The Artful Bird back to Interweave. It arrived on Saturday, which gave me four days to edit a 160 page manuscript.  I'm soRead More →

How We Handle Kids’ Allowances

August 31, 2010

We decided that the beginning of first grade was the right time for Roxanne to begin to get an allowance.  She has become increasingly interested in having her own spending money and in figurine out what things cost.  A few months ago she spotted a mermaid figuring at a toy store in Dedham that sheRead More →
