Craft Disasters

June 3, 2005

Well, nothing to show in the craft department today. Not that I haven’t been busy because I have been busy, but still no results because I have been experiencing a series of crafting disasters.

First, I was making an apron, but that bias tape – IT IS SO EVIL. Enough said.

Then, I was working up an original pattern for a puppet. Instead of making it simple, I wanted the mouth to move so it can gobble up Roxy’s belly or her little cheeks, etc., but that is proving somewhat difficult because I have never done one like this before nor seen a pattern for one. So, again with the technical difficulties.

Today, I thought, “Let me do something little and simple.” I had bought this tiny brown mug at a thrift shop a few weekends ago to make into a teeny tiny pin cushion. Again, not to make things easy I decided to try out some new embroidery stitches on the cushion and they came out wonky and weird. Sometimes I think EMBROIDERY IS EVIL.

So…like I said, I’ve been busy but nothing to show for today.

Hmmmm… Maybe I need to make something cute and simple that will give me a little success and motivation.

Anyone else had days like these?

I have to agree with you, bias tape IS pure evil. I try to avoid it at all costs. I remember my mom applying bias tape, first she would sew down one side (the shorter one), then flip it over and sew the other side. Sewing twice? It always seemed like too much work to me. Until I tried sewing just once and found that it doesn’t work. I talked with the teacher at the sewing machine shop about getting one of those bias attachment thingies, and she said that it’s still hard to attach it, apparently the doo-hickey doesn’t solve the problem.
And yes, I’ve had days like that. Time to put away all the crafting and have a cup of tea. (Alternatively, if you’re really stubborn like me, you can just plow through it until *something* works!)

Days like those are worse than not being able to do anything
