This crab was pure joy to make.
While Mimi was here last week for a visit and a lunch date, we were chatting a bit about how it is nice to revisit old patterns we've made. Making them again is so freeing because the stress of figuring out how it will all come together is gone, leaving you to focus on all the fun parts like choosing fabrics and buttons and just slowly sewing it all up. And in that vein, I made this crab.
The button joints on his claws are two of the vintage buttons I got in Sturbridge at the textile show last week.
The color matched the deep yellow perfectly. And I love red. I really like the piecing on the patchwork shell.
And I spent the morning updating my Etsy shop. The crab is there, along with a snail, a goldfish, and a quail.
All new stuff made in the first part of the summer, exclusively for my shop. Hooray!

That is a winner!!! Love the bright colors and more. I remember making stuffed lobsters for my Texas nieces and nephews, Christmases probably 35 to 40 years ago; and I understand they screamed when they took them out of the packages (I think scared rather than delighted as they should have been :*))

I totally love the crab! It’s the Marylander in you.

Also being a Marylander, I really love anything crab as well!
I did not see the pattern in your Etsy shop. Is it still available?

Hi Ellen, I have a free crab pattern here: http://whileshenaps.com/2014/04/free-pattern-casey-the-crab.html

I found that one, but was looking for the one you mention in this post that you had up in your Etsy shop. 🙂

Oh, I see! There’s a very similar crab pattern in my book, Stuffed Animals: https://www.amazon.com/Stuffed-Animals-Abigail-Patner-Glassenberg/dp/1454703644
