camel

January 7, 2007

Dscn0007_1_1

I worked on this camel for quite a while and I’m satisfied with her.  She’s nice and tall (about 9") and she has a good heft and she stands really well.  The camel toe helps.  I put a gusset on the top of her head and another one on her hump.  That would be a hump gusset. I like saying that – hump gusset.  And she’s a dromedary, just one hump.  Ask Roxanne about this and you’ll get a nice lecture about the difference between a dromedary and a Bactrian camel.  My little professor.  And Charlie would like you to know that he was the one that pointed out that the vintage "Nowell’s" patch is perfect for a camel. No wells.  And I just selected that patch for its colors.  It’s a family affair around here.

What fun! The camel has such attitude and that map fabric is amazing and really fitting somehow for a ‘ship of the desert’.

He captures the camel pose perfectly ; slightly aloof, knows he is beautiful … I can’t help loving him.
