Bird Lovers Gift Guide

November 23, 2010

Today I thought I would share with you a collection of some favorite bird-themed gifts from around crafty blogland. You know I love birds and there is just a plethora of amazing things being made out there with bird imagery.  There should be something here to satisfy all the bird-lovers on your holiday shopping list.

Geninne has a new set of original bird watercolors in her Big Cartel shop.  I love the wings made of maps and the white line details. These are just stunning.

For the sewist, I love this collection of bird-themed fabrics by designer hamburgerliebe on Spoonflower. She describes them as "a little bit old-fashioned like my grannies and aunties were."  The color combinations and vintagey vibe would make me so happy if I got some yardage of these as a gift.Il_570xN.189360218
My sister first told me about belleandboo several years ago and I have since bought several prints as gifts for babies and kids in my life.  The sweet innocence and simplicity of these illustrations is timeless.  This piece is called "Release."  I love it!  If you need a frame, she will even frame it for you. Her frames are terrific and they come really well-packaged.

If you've known me for any time at all you've had to listen to me rave about Tamar Mogendorff, one of my most favorite soft sculpture artists of all times. The elegant, deconstructed yet effortless style of Tamar's work gets me every single time.  To own one of her originals would blow my mind. This beautiful black raven in a bird cage is available at lilleashop.

Desk calendars have been my go-to gift for teachers and babysitters these last few years.  This owl calendar by Gingiber on Etsy is my pick for 2011.

My kids will look at any grouping of similar objects and turn them into a family. "This is the Mommy, this is the Daddy, and this is the Baby!"  This owl family bamboo mobile by Petit Collage would thrill them to no end.

Check out the way these birds dip in and out of this ceramic vase by Sara Paloma on Etsy.  That is so cool!  I love this vase so much.

Pair this hand-carved barn swallow rubber stamp by Corrabelle on Etsy with some ink pads, a sketch book and a set of colored pencils and you have an perfect gift for any little girl.

Some people are fairly impossible to buy for, don't you think? And for those people, there are always books.  I have had this book, Bird by Andrew Zuckerman, on my Amazon wishlist for more than a year. It has a consistent five star review and here is the description:

Turning his camera to the world of birds, Andrew Zuckerman has a created a new body of work showcasing more than 200 stunning photographs of nearly 75 different species. These winged creatures from exotic parrots to everyday sparrows, and endangered penguins to woody owls are captured with Zuckerman's painstaking perspective against a stark white background to reveal the vivid colors, textures, and personalities of each subject in extraordinary and exquisite detail. The ultimate art book for ornithologists and nature enthusiasts alike, Bird is a volume of sublime beauty.

Looks amazing, right?  I know I would be so inspired by these images. This book would thrill any bird-lover.

And that rounds out my gift guide for birders. This was so much fun!  Happy shopping to you!
