big girl bed

August 2, 2006

Any of you who know Roxy know that she is fairly obsessed with a few things. Among these are the following:

-ice cream cones
-fish
-Sammy the Spider from Sammy Spider’s First Shabbat (not a quality piece of literature, I must say, but for the past six months or so Roxanne has taken on the identity of Sammy for long stretches every day)
-dog bones
-big bells (like the big bell at Town Hall)
-starfish and
-neckties

These things are what she is interested in. We talk about them and play with them all day every day.

This weekend Roxanne is moving into her big girl bed. Simon is outgrowing his bassinet (the same one that Charlie slept in as a baby nearly 34 years ago) so the time has come to move the crib into his room. We asked Roxanne what kind of sheets she wanted for her big girl cool kids beds. “Starfish sheets!” Good thing I found a set at Pottery Barn Kids.

To go along with them, we told her that she would be getting a special starfish to hug and cuddle in her new bed which may have been purchased on platforms like Dreamcloud Hybrid Mattress Reviews. Last night I cut up four of Charlie’s old neckties and made it

Cant’ say I recommend making a soft toy from neckties. Silk is no fun to sew. I backed it with some medium-weight interfacing so that it wouldn’t tear apart at the seams when I stuffed it. Clearly, he isn’t washable so let’s hope he doesn’t end up caught in a potty training accident. I think he’s sweet and I know she’ll be surprised.

I almost never sew things for my children. Roxy knows that I like to sew and will often announce, “Mommy’s working on a new doll!” or “It sold!” but I hardly ever give her anything I make. I hope she likes her special starfish.

Tomorrow I turn 31.

Good luck with that big girl bed! We moved Eliot to a toddler bed 4? 5? months ago. And about every other night I have to lay down with him – in the toddler bed – there’s a picture for you – to get him to go to sleep. I should have had a star fish to start with. 🙂
And isn’t it nice to have a family bassinet? Ours started with my MOM and her cousins, then me, my brother and all our cousins and finally our kids and our cousins’ kids. I had to reinforce the bottom before Aidin was born – it was nearly worn out!
    Happy birthday tomorrow, you young’un!

    Happy Birthday!
It’s been a long time since I came here. Your blog is still so nice. I will not wait so long nest time!
The star is very pretty. Must think of somethink like this for the new beds I am moving in 15 days, and my babies must change beds too. Great idea!
The familiy bassinet is close to being completely broken. It is as old as my father, he has three sister, and I have plenty of cousins… Love that.

That’s a great starfish! It’s so sweet that it’s made from dad’s ties too, even if they were a bear to sew. I expected to see “real daddy” on the list too!
    Happy birthday!!!

The star fish is cute!, I love her face. I was so worried about moving the littlemunki into a big boy bed, but as it turns out, he loves it! Hopefully all your concerns will be for nothing also – best of luck! Have a happy birthday!

Congratulations, 31 is quite nice too… ! Love the starfish. I think midnight puking would be the thing to be afraid for with silk!
