Amazon Prime Day begins today at 3 pm Eastern. The event runs for a day and a half and is a great opportunity to save money on some essentials you’ve been meaning to buy. As a mom of three kids who also works a lot, I’m a pretty big fan of the convenience of online shopping and have been an Amazon Prime member for several years now. The membership more than pays for itself. If you’re not a yet a Prime member click here for a 30-day free trial (expires July 17, 2018 at 5pm Pacific).
Here are some of the supplies I either use every single day in my business or that I recommend and all of them are available on Amazon. Today and tomorrow might be a good time to pick up a few of these things you’ve been meaning to get since they’ll likely be on sale. Please note that the links in the post are affiliate links which means I get a small percentage of the sale at no additional cost to you. Thank you!
Okay, let’s take a look! First up, the business stuff:
The Dymo 4XL is the label printer I use to print all the shipping labels for orders. It’s thermal which means it never needs ink. I’ve been using it for two years now (here’s my post about why I think it’s totally worth the investment) and I love it. And don’t forget the labels.
A postage scale is your friend. I’ve had this one from Dymo for years and use it daily. Being able to confidently weigh and print postage from home has been such a lifesaver for me.
The JOBY GorillaPod tripod is super useful for shooting photos and video. The flexible legs allow you to wrap it around almost anything (you can even hang it upside down) and hold your camera or phone steady. I bought this tripod when I was shooting photos for my second book and I still use it weekly. I also got this attachment that makes allows any tripod to hold your smartphone. Super handy!
The Fotodiox 20×20 Lightbox bathes all your products in LED light allowing you to get awesome product shots any time of day. Best of all, it folds up flat for easy storage.
And now, the sewing and creative stuff.
For the elementary school auction this year I donated an in-home sewing lesson and last week went to a family’s home here in Wellesley and taught a mom and her 7-year-old daughter to use their Brother XM2701. It was brand new and I was really impressed with it as a starter machine. Super simple to use, runs very smoothly, and under $100. Amazon has this machine marked for a special Prime Day deal that beings at 3:19 on July 16 so check the price, it may be even lower!
I learned a ton of super useful tips from Nancy Zieman’s Sewing A to Z. Nancy was the consummate sewing pro and I think we as a community can all agree that she is dearly missed. I still turn to this book often and I think anyone who enjoys sewing will learn something new here, from newbies to veterans (here’s my full review of this book).
I had the chance to try out these Kai 7205 tailor scissors at Quilt Market and I was so impressed with them. The right tools really do make all the difference! Treat yourself to a high-quality pair of scissors. You can’t go wrong with these.
I hope this list helps you to find a few new things for your business or your studio on Amazon Prime Day. I know I’m also going to try to restock some basics like rotary cutter blades, pins (why are all my pins bent?), and packing tape. Might as well take advantage of the deals while they last.
