That’s me speaking at Midwest Craft Con last year. Photo by Chris Rutan.
I’m excited to be teaching a series of three classes on creative small business at the Wellesley Free Library throughout the month of November. These classes are free and open to the public and people often drive in to take them (they are generously supported by The Wellesley Free Library Foundation). If you live in the Boston area and would like to come to one, or all, I’d love to meet you!
Here’s the class schedule:
- Monday, November 7 from 7-8:30 pm Etsy
- Monday, November 21 from 7-8:30 pm Email Marketing
- Monday, November 28 from 7-8:30 pm Instagram
(Click on each link to read the class description and register for free.)
I have a special affinity for the Wellesley Free Library, and not just because my 12-year-old spends countless hours each week there reading graphic novels and chatting with Emma, the cool librarian (thanks for your patience, Emma!).
Way back in 2007 when I was just getting started as a creative business owner the Wellesley Free Library gave me my first show.
I displayed 53 handmade original soft toys in the display cases on the first floor. Getting ready for that show was an enormous job (I had a 1-year-old and a 3-year-old to take care of at the same time), but it was also incredibly affirming. That show helped me to see that this sewing thing was indeed a business and something I wanted to pursue.
It’s fun to be back nine years later to teach about Etsy and small business and help people who are hoping to make a living with craft. I hope you can join us!

Thank you, Erene. I don’t think so, but there are lots of great online resources on these topics. I have an ebook about email marketing. The Etsy Seller Handbook is amazing. And there are several Instagram courses out there.
