Tie One On – Pink Lemonade

July 5, 2005

Dscn1124

Here it is – my apron for Tie One On. I’m pleased with how it came out. I got to use up a whole bunch of pink fabric that I had in my stash (why do I have so much pink fabric anyway?). I strip pieced a quilt top and then embroidered lemons on it in brown (the lemons are inspired by a vintage tea towel). Then I attached ribbon straps and backed it with this terrific pink and brown fabic (the same fabric from the matryoshka dolls I made a while ago). And finally I topstitched around the edges to make everything lay flat.

Here is a close-up of the embroidery. It is all done in backstitch.

And here I am modeling on the front porch. Photo thanks to Charlie. Yes, my neighbors think I’m crazy because I am forever outside taking pictures of little creatures and aprons and other random things.

Thanks, Amy, for coming up with Tie One On and inspiring me to make a new apron!

Wow! It’s *so* funny that I saw this…5 minutes ago I was just going through my fabric to see what I had on hand for “pink lemonade,” and the first thing I pulled out was that little pink floral you sent me, that you’ve used in this apron! This came out so beautifully! You really put it together quickly too! I love the embroidered lemons!

I love how your apron turned out! It’s so summery! I laughed at the thought of your neighbors thinking you crazy–I do most of my photographing in the back yard, so the neighbors won’t wonder what that crazy lady next door is up to today.

I love it! And the appliques are such a sweet touch! Makes me want to go lay on a hammock with a nice cold lemonade. Pink of course! 🙂
