Patchwork Tote

July 7, 2005

Dscn1127

I’ve never been much interested in making tote bags. They seem like one of those things that mass manufacturers do pretty well. But, after I finished my pink lemonade apron, I felt like doing some more strip piecing so I made a big enough quilt top to form two tote bags. Here is the first one.

Recently I find that I am making things in twos for some reason, and then I find that I run out of steam on the second one. Hence Charlie wandering around the house shouting, “I have no beak!” in reference to my poor owl #2 who is, alas, still beakless.

I embroidered two different birds on the bag. The little love bird is on the front and the owl is on the back.

I used a heavyweight interfacing so the bag stand up nicely. Yellow mod polka dots are on the lining, with one of my woven tags.

So there you go. My first tote bag. And the studio is a total mess again.

Another adorable creation! I found a great book on making totes a couple of weeks ago and after seeing yours I am itching to try one out.

Wow Abby! You are making some amazing things…I have a thing for bags, so I LOVE this one and the apron too, of course. Roxy really is so adorable. I love the picture of her with Charlie on the slide. 🙂
