Two nights ago in the bath Roxy got the idea that it would be fun to lay down on her back. This was possible because we only put a few inches of water in the tubby when she takes a bath. She had so much fun getting her hair wet that I let her do it a bunch.
So yesterday afternoon the weather turned warm and sunny and I took Roxy to the pool. She was doing her usual baby pool routine – wandering around picking up toys, asking me, “What’s dis?” and then dropping them. Then, all of a sudden she was totally underwater on her back. I jumped the two feet over to where she was, skinning my knee in the process, and pulled my drowning baby out of the pool. She had a big smile on her face and didn’t even cough. And then she tried to lay down on her back again! It scared the living daylights out of me. I followed her around like a hawk after that and hardly let her walk in the water by herself. Geez!
I have been making a lot of bears recently (as though you hadn’t noticed). Here is the latest one
All this bear-making is actually for a purpose – a local children’s store is interested in carrying them! We have spoken over the phone and via email, but I have an in-person meeting with them on the 16th. I am trying to pull together 6-10 bears to bring. It’s really an exciting meeting to get ready for – it is an awesome store (and I’m not just saying that because they’ve seen my blog). It’s where I got all of Roxy’s best clothes, including her 1st birthday dress.
Last week I checked out Adventures in Toy-Making by Gillian Bradshaw-Smith (1976) from the library.

You attach snaps to these elephants’ trunks and they can parade around attached to each other. I like how she made them from suede.

Here is the fabric I got yesterday (yes, I cut up the brown and pink polka dotted one right away). I thougth the black and white one would make great tights on a doll.
Wow you make your bears so quickly! They are soopa cute standing on tippytoe, bless them. Hope they like them at the shop! I like the button eyes too!!
Your newest bear is SO CUTE! And I have that old stuffed animal book too! The exact same one! I got in on Ebay a while back. Crazy.

I Love the bears.
My son (was 1 on 6/10) was pulled out by a lifeguard last week, so I familiar with your terror. I am always right beside him, but I was putting sunscreen on my nearly 3 year old, and the lifeguard got there first. He does the lay down in the pool thing several times each trip. He has no fear of the water, which is great, but terrifying.
Maybe its time for swimming lessons? Glad she is okay!

I just bought this book at the library sale. I think I paid .50 cents for it! It’s great. I’m thinking of ways to modernize it with newer fabrics.
I wondered if you’d have something about this book in your quest for toy making. And there you are!
