Progress Pride Flag Quilt

Progress Pride Flag Patchwork quilt

I’m very excited to have finished this patchwork Progress Pride Flag quilt. The pattern is by Bobbie Gentili from Geeky Bobbin. All of the fabrics are scraps from my stash.

I love Pocket. Whenever I read an interesting article online (or just see the headline of an article I want to read later), I send it to Pocket where it sits, waiting for me. Sometimes when I finally sit down and open Pocket it’s a bit overwhelming. It’s like an amazing magazine of interesting stuffRead More →

Should You Work for Free Product?: A Case Study of the Glue Dots Design Team

November 12, 2014

image credit I’ve worked for free fabric. Last year I designed a tutorial for Timeless Treasures to post on their blog.  It took me about four hours to design it, sew it, photograph each step, take the beauty shots, and write the instructions. I was paid in fat quarter bundles and several yards of flannel.Read More →

Podcast Episode #35: Robert Mahar

Video instruction is definitely going to play a role in the future of craft media. Watching someone sew, or paint, or fold paper can convey a complex technique easily in seconds. High quality video demonstrations are also really enjoyable to watch. They’re a form of entertainment (think about The Food Network) as well as aRead More →

An Inside Look at Designing Premier Quilting Cottons for JoAnns

November 7, 2014

While doing research for my post about how much fabric designers earn I spoke with a fabric designer who has licensed fabric collections to both a fabric company and to the largest chain of brick-and-mortar fabric stores in the United States, JoAnn Fabrics. The financial arrangement that resulted from working with JoAnns was so differentRead More →

An Inside Look at How Much Fabric Designers Earn

November 3, 2014

image credit Designing quilting cottons is a significant status symbol in the sewing world, and for good reason. Fabric is beautiful. It’s the raw material that draws many of us into sewing in the first place. The chance to design your own collection, to sew with it and see other people sewing with it, isRead More →

Happy Halloween!

October 31, 2014

Happy Halloween from a T-Rex, a mad scientist, and Ruth Bader Ginsburg. We get hundreds of trick-or-treaters so we have to load up on candy. And I’ll be wearing a chicken mask when I greet them all. Should be a fun night! ++++ On a totally different subject, this week I’ve gotten several really wonderfulRead More →

Why a Long-Time Blogger Stops Blogging

October 27, 2014

Cathy Callahan spent a good portion of her professional career as a window dresser for indie boutiques in Los Angeles and the surrounding area. Often when it was time for her window displays to come down, customers and passersby would want to purchase the things she’s made for display. Those requests sparked an indieRead More →
