Progress Pride Flag Quilt

Progress Pride Flag Patchwork quilt

I’m very excited to have finished this patchwork Progress Pride Flag quilt. The pattern is by Bobbie Gentili from Geeky Bobbin. All of the fabrics are scraps from my stash.

This was a fun project and the finished quilt is really bright and colorful. As part of this process, I also enjoyed learning more about how the design of the Progress Pride flag came to be.

Wading Bird II

October 16, 2007

A second wading bird.  The first one is so happy to have someone to peer at.  This new one is made from white and natural-colored linen and has a ruff, too, like the other one. Picking the fabric for the wings is how I start each bird.  The reds and pinks here all came togetherRead More →

Happy October!

October 15, 2007

From sweet little devils and precious pumpkins alike.

“Think”

October 10, 2007

"Think"9" x 12" collage and soft sculpture with vintage patch This bird’s head is turned and cocked to one side.  I feel like she is talking to me, and she is a sweetheart.  I set out to make a black and white and cream piece here. I do like the neutral colors.

Wading Bird

October 3, 2007

I made this wading bird from new and vintage fabrics, including some more lovely Ikea fabric from my sister.  I missed making these tall birds.  I really like their form.  I added a ruff to the front. This piece will be part of a show I’m having in April at Paper Boat. I will beRead More →

Sukkot

September 30, 2007

What a lovely holiday.  Our Sukkah went up in just about three hours this year, with only minimal frustration and cursing.  Each year it looks a bit nicer inside.  We had a warm little party today with lots of toddlers running around making felt etrogs and playing in the sandbox and grown-ups drinking homemade chai,Read More →

“Sky (Nest of Thread XII)”

September 27, 2007

"Sky (Nest of Thread XII)8" x 10" mixed media soft sculpture and collage I finished this piece last night. It looks really nice paired with "Perforated (Nest of Thread XI)" and "Ill Meet You There". A bit of a series, really.  These are for one of two spring shows I’m beginning to get ready for. Read More →

“Perforated (Nest of Thread XI)”

September 21, 2007

"Perforated (Nest of Thread XI)"9" x 12" mixed media collage and soft sculpture Lots of random and interesting bits of things in here: a receipt from Charlie’s high school trip to Russia, one of my myriad of vintage patches, bits of an encyclopedia for children, bingo chips (I do love bingo chips). The beautiful redRead More →

Volume: On and Off the Wall – another juried show!

September 19, 2007

I was excited this evening to learn that two of my pieces have been accepted into a juried show, "Volume: On and Off the Wall," at Lynn Arts in Lynn, MA.    Hooray for juried shows in industrial and mill towns in metro Boston! The judge for this show was Kelley Bennett, the Massachusetts CulturalRead More →

“Big Responsibility”

September 17, 2007

"Big Responsibility"mixed media soft sculpture(found wood, vintage thread, wire, floral tape, polyfill, bed sheet, muslin, acrylic paint) I found a wooden shelf-style spice rack at the dump and took a few pieces of it apart to make the base of this piece. I used an awesome thrifted bed sheet for the underwings on the parentRead More →
