News and Updates from Abby Glassenberg Design

February 11, 2013

In the past few weeks I've had a few exciting Abby Glassenberg Design press pieces and projects completed and I want to share them with you.

My first Simplicity pattern is out and in stores nationwide.

1681
I designed these! Simplicity 1681

This set includes two of my original Lovey Dovies (the bear and the bunny), my Baby Bear and Blankie Set, as well as my Chick and Egg Reversible Toy. The Baby Bear is also available by itself as an It's So Easy pattern, 1649.

And I'm working on a new set now that will come out next winter. Very exciting!

Have you checked out &Stitches? It's an ezine for people who love stitching of all kinds. It's self-published by two incredibly smart and talented designers, Nicole Vos van Avezathe and Carina Envoldsen-Harris. The magazine comes out quarterly and is just lovely. This issue has a woodland themes and includes a very nice profile of me and my work. I love this kind of creative magazine. It's beautiful, inspiring, free of advertising, and total homegrown in the very best way. Pick up a digital copy here.

You may remember my post at the beginning of January asking for readers to sign up for 15 minute phone calls with me for some research I was doing. Well, through that post I was able to spend a wonderful week in January talking to 18 incredibly generous, honest women…about my blog! Curious? I wrote a guest post for Oh My Handmade explaining the project and detailing what I learned. It was an amazing experience.

Okay, that's it for right now. I've got two video interviews lined up for the coming weeks, and a very long to-do list of new fun projects to tackle. I am so happy when I've got big things to sink my teeth into.

Congratulations on your simplicity pattern, it looks great – I love the variations and he looks a totally squish-able teddy. I’ve purchased the &stitches zine and I really enjoyed your interview. Now I know why you are so patient – it’s your teaching background! I also found out when your book is due out – May, which is good news. A copy will certainly be ordered. I liked what you said about sharing – you certainly do that and I’m really grateful for it. The
I did manage with your help at the end of last year to put together a felt deer. I was pretty pleased with it but it does need some adjustments but luckily I know what they are (front legs too splayed despite darts, so I will make the under gusset start from a little lower down and perhaps do a little larger dart). His ears need work to as they are a bit of an afterthought and need proper designing. It’s pretty cute though! I wouldn’t have managed without your help, thank you. I ran out of felt and steam before Christmas and then moved in other directions for a while, but now I need to get him sorted out so he is properly finished.

    Hi Sara,
That's awesome that you are working on your own deer design. There's nothing more satisfying than when it works and you've created something entirely new and your own. Good luck with it and I'd love to see it when it's ready!

Exciting news! Congrats on your pattern, it looks great.
I’ve been giving silent thanks to you all week, you and your really helpful tips on how to make your own patterns and sew birds. I’ve been given a commission to make a moorhen and without having read your various blog posts, I’d have had a lot more trouble than I have had so far! Thanks again!
