lizard (silk and linen)

February 8, 2007

Lizard

A lizard made from white linen and awesome lizardy silk from Stephanie.   He is the first in a series of toys I am making for Flora, the lovely store at the Massachusetts Horticultural Society. These toys will also be for sale through Flora at the New England Flower Show.   I’m pretty excited about this project. I have always loved to make art that is evocative of the natural world.

I am also trying to work with some new fabrics right now. Experimenting with silks and crushed velvets and blends and learning more about their qualities, and their limitations.  It’s really interesting.  And hopefully I’ll find some time soon to dye some more cloth.  A great post here about the sense of discovery dyeing your own fabric can bring. It is a totally cool process and when I use fabric I’ve dyed myself I feel like it makes each toy really unique.
