Introducing Newsletter Classifieds

March 13, 2017

I’ve been writing a weekly email newsletter now for over three years and I find putting the newsletter together to be incredibly satisfying. All week long I save interesting links to share with subscribers. In particular I look for links to opportunities for paid work in the industry, news about what’s happening in craft and social media, inspirational podcasts and videos, and great products I don’t want you to miss.

After I hit send on Wednesday mornings I get lots of wonderful emails back. Here’s one I got last week from the marketing director at a major fabric manufacturer:

The legwork you do finding all this information and writing and presenting it in a way I can use it best is, as they say, ‘Priceless.’ Thank you.

I know that a lot goes into creating a truly optimal design for an email newsletter and for a long time now I’ve wanted to hire someone who could make the newsletter’s look outstanding. I’m pleased to say I’ve found that person: Jacque Boltik. Jacque designed the Lenny Letter (Lena Dunham’s newsletter) and the LA Times newsletter, among others, and I’m thrilled that she’s now applied her incredible skills to the While She Naps newsletter.

Rest assured that the content you’ve come to rely on will be staying the same. The new design is modern and clean. It makes it easier for readers to access the content and ensures that the newsletter will look great on everyone’s screen, no matter the email client.

Classifieds

An exciting part of the new look is the addition of classifieds. Classifieds are like those old school ads that ran in newspapers, but now they’re digital and sent directly to a highly engaged audience. They’re also very affordable.

These are a great way to get the word out about:
• A new pattern or product
• A blog, Instagram, Facebook page or podcast
• A service you provide such as sample sewing, tech editing, virtual assistance, or graphic design
• Your new course or upcoming event
• Your email newsletter
• An online shop
• An upcoming online event or contest like a conference or sew-along
• Your Facebook group or online community

There are two options for classifieds:

text + image (1 available each week)
text only (2 available each week)

The classifieds will have their own prominent section in the newsletter. You can read all about them here. The launch date for the new format will be March 22, but the classifieds are for sale now and seem to be well-received so far. Reserve one if you think you want one!

UPDATE: The text+image listings have sold out for the year. Thank you! There are still quite a few text only listings available and these are awesome and affordable (and include a link).

I think the classified ads will be a great addition! There isn’t a full service quilt shop or art supply store close by in my area, so I order all of my supplies online. I’m always looking for online quilt shops to support by purchasing my fabric, thread, fibers, notions, art supplies from them. The podcast with Pokey was excellent!

I always look forward to your newsletter and podcasts. You put so much work into these to bring us the best information and I am so very appreciative of all you do! Thank you!

    Hi Abby,
I somehow got bumped from receiving your weekly newsletter. Ever since I bought a classified ad a few weeks ago, I haven’t received your newsletter. Could it coinside with your new design rollout? I plan to sign up again but thought you should know. I miss it!

Oops, I had a typo on my website.
