I did some sketching of crested birds and some more thinking about bird legs.
White crested bird.
Her legs are wrapped with floral tape left over from wrapping the stems of the one hundred and forty five origami flowers I made for our wedding. Hurray for floral tape! I have a big roll of it in brown coming in the mail to me so subsequent birds will not have to be all white. I also used copper wire and in a little higher gauge. This wire is more malleable and therefore really easy to work with.
In my mind while I was making this bird I was thinking about Camilla Taylor. Do you think there is a resemblance? I hope she is not offended by this. I do think she’s rather lovely to look at. If you like white birds, see these beautiful birds by Sandra Monat and Tamar Mogendorff and Lauri Faggioni. Good stuff.
This is my favorite one. She is so beautiful and striking. I can see her sitting under a spot light in a gallery and stealing all the attention from the other art work.
she has such a nice plucky attitude.
Some of our Australian Galahs have beautiful crests and colours – try searching cockatoos, pink & grey galahs, sulphur creasted, and major mitchells. (Names are often different from east coast to west). Heres some:

have you ever done an ibis?

some have these weird flattened beaks that might be fun to do with fabric.
You are very talented.
And you are original.
Your crow is excellent.
I have just bookmarked you:)
I was just thinking that I enjoy seeing your sketches with your finished projects, and then I scrolled down to see the stunning bird in its graphic glory. I love how stark and linear this piece is! It’s great to see it with black and white line drawings.
Really cute bird – looks like a Sulphur Crested Cockatoo.
Even down to the expression they have on their faces. I think Cockies always look like they are in on a joke at your expense.
ack! love this one — perfection!
Oh! I’m so very flattered! I loved this bird when I saw it on your Flickr stream and kept going back to look at it.
