I’m not kidding when I say this (and I know that I’m prone to hyperbole – but I swear, not now): I actually lost my breath for a second when I saw this. The outline stitching, the egg, the whole scene is, well, breath-taking. Fabulous work.

I forgot to say in my last comment, that I understand exactly what you mean about making repeatable patterns and the effort it takes. When individual pieces are often more exciting, but tedious to make a pattern for. I certainly encourage you to explore this avenue.

It looks just like he was a part of a pen and ink drawing, with the decorative paper collaged on for the wings…and he just simply stepped out of the 2d barnyard and came to life. If that makes any sense.

The hen is absolutely amazing but for some reason I really love the egg and cannot imagine how you would go about making something like that. It’s just so… eggy! I’ve only just started making soft toys so am definitely following other people’s patterns for the moment but I look forward to a time when I might be able to create my own designs. I always keep an eye on your blog for inspiration and motivation.
i don’t think i’ve been lurking long enough to speak with authority, but this hen has a different feel to it than some of your other works. i love how the white is evocative of the porcelain but the printed fabric adds a different dimension, and my eye is particularly drawn to the nest – is that sewn as well?
WOW! That hen is amazing. Really amazing. I am drawn to making things from fabric even though I’m not really a sewer (have half a mermaid…), but I don’t want to make them too toy like. With that hen you have got it spot on. That is fabric art and it is wonderful.
