half way there

August 7, 2008

DSCN0007

Three of six drab birds are finished.  I think the next three will be warmer shades. I couldn't resist a few brown and taupe fat quarters at the fabric store on Saturday when Roxanne and I went to pick out her dress fabric.

Speaking of the dress, it is also about half way there and oh my is it bright.  I'm excited to figure out how to make and attach the ruffle.  And I've promised my niece a blue dress.  As I feared, now that I've begun sewing children's clothes I cannot stop.  Any suggestions for super simple dress or pants patterns?

    These look like very formal and interesting birds. Birds I would love to hang out with and go to a nice dinner with. Love your work! :-}

    The drab birds are fantastic, and the dresses are so sweet!Easy kids’ patterns:
    The good old pillowcase (or two rectangles) top/tunic/dress; one of my favourite easy and versatile pants patterns is here:

    This peasant top pattern is fast and simple (usually needs to be lengthened):

    and an a-line skirt with some applique and embroidery always seems to please.

    I have made a few skirts for my eldest daughter- layered ruffles. I measure her waist, add a few cm for good luck then usually do five strips each lengthening by 10cm. Gather each strip and sew onto the one above and hey presto, a pretty skirt. A gathering foot on your machine helps…:)

    These are amazing, and I’m sure that they will look just as good in brown and taupe.
