Here's what I've been working on this week: a giraffe! I love giraffes and there aren't very many sewing patterns for them so I thought I'd jump in and make one. This guy is of the "sit up and have tea at your tea party" variety. He's got a bag of polly pellets in his bottom so he will be a good guest and not topple over onto the tablecloth.
I know you want to see his backside. I had fun with this mane.
I'm working on the pattern now. I actually love this part, too. All the editing and writing is pretty satisfying, although maybe not as exciting as the designing and sewing.
I'm hoping to take him over to the Wellesley College Greenhouse for a photoshoot. He'd like to nibble some leaves, please.
Jeremy is just gorgeous. The pattern can’t come soon enough. Have a lovely Christmas.
Hi Lyn,
Thank you! Happy holidays to you and your family!
I happened upon your site about a week ago, and now I can’t wait to get home and try to sew a softie! I was so surprised to see that you are based in Wellesley, I currently attend Wellesley College (and miss my sewing machine dearly)!
Oh, that's awesome! Wellesley students babysit for my kids all the time! I hope to get to me you at some point.
He’s gorgeous. I just wish I could find some of that gorgeous giraffe-print fabric you’ve used! The first toy I designed myself was a giraffe, and I had to applique all his spots one by one (he’s here, if you’re interested: http://www.flickr.com/photos/sugaryflower/7998394697/in/photostream)
And you’re so right, there aren’t many cute giraffe patterns around, which is why I freestyled mine.
Hope you have a great Christmas!
I love your giraffe! Giraffes are awesome. I got the printed fleece I used for my giraffe at Jo-Ann's fabrics. It is actually one of their name brand fabrics. I've also seen it on Fabric.com. I hope that helps!
I agree, there are not enough giraffes out there! I especially love the pose of this one – he can come round for tea any time he likes!
Aw, thank you Caroline! The pattern for him should be ready today!
Thanks anyway, but I’m in Australia, and unfortunately we don’t have the same shops here – and postage from the US is a killer…
Never mind, I’m sure I’ll find something similar one day!
Any update on the pattern? I’d love to make this for my little one.
