For my little postmaster

March 9, 2006

She’s turning two! Here is Roxanne in her typical garb – wearing daddy’s necktie (which I altered, mind you, by slicing the back and attaching a velcro closure so she wouldn’t accidentally hang herself!), holding daddy’s lunch bag, and clutching “real daddy” (a vintage 1970’s action figure of a grey-haired daddy in a necktie). The fact that she calls this little guy her real daddy is a constant source of amusement around here.

Roxy’s Post Office-themed birthday party is on Saturday morning and my parents are flying in from D.C. right now. We have party hats with postage stamp stickers on them, red white and blue balloons, a big pile of packages for the centerpiece, goodie bags with little mailboxes and mailman stickers inside – the works. Plus, a craft project (you think I’d plan a birthday party with no craft project?). I printed up some blank postcards for everyone to decorate and to write a special birthday greeting to Roxy. Then we’ll mail them on Saturday afternoon and all next week she’ll get special mail!

And I spent nap time today icing her envelope cake. I have to give Charlie credit for the design – especially the “2” in the stamp.

Whew! I’ll tell you – it’s much easier to have an Elmo birthday party. Everything Elmo already exists. You just go to the party store and buy the whole thing all done. When you have a post office birthday party you have to get creative.

I trimmed the sides off the cake to make it a perfect rectangle and there happened to be a little icing left over so I had a little nap time treat. Yummy.

What a fantastic party that is going to be! Great idea about the postcards! Every since “heart bear” arrived in our mailbox, my daughter always wants to know what is in there for her–usually just a catalog! We might just have to borrow Roxie’s theme for her bday in May! 😉

That is so cute that she has her very own saftey altered tie. She is way coller than Avril Lavign ever was.
