first day back at the farm

Yesterday was the first day of our fourth summer with a CSA at Land's Sake Farm in Weston.  We were so happy to be back!

The weekly ritual of visiting "our" farm is one of the very best parts of the summer for us.  The kids know their way around and feel very at home. They'll show you the bee hives and the chicken trailer (more about our two amazing backyard chickens in another post) and the farm stand, and they love to weigh and count our share under the CSA tent.

Last summer Land's Sake went through a bit of a crises in planning and management which, combined with a very rainy June, meant that we had no share at all in July and August.  We were very sad, but it has made the beauty of this summer's first harvest even more amazing.  Just look at those beets!

I love that the farm manager at Land's Sake is a woman and that my girls see her driving the tractor and being in charge of the farm's daily operation.

And, best of all, the very first strawberries were ready to pick.  We got our pints

and headed out to the field

And look at the bounty.

 

(Filling that one pint was a combined effort. Evidence of red juice on two noses and dripping down two chins was a clue as to why one pint ended up empty.)

It is so good to be back at the farm again.
