I've mentioned before that I love craft podcasts. While I sit in my studio and sew by myself I love to listen to inerviews with artists and crafters. They keep me company and inspire and motivate me. So I was totally thrilled when Jennifer Ackerman-Haywood emailed me with an interview request.
I have listened to Craftsanity, Jennifer's podcast, for about a year now. In fact, I have listened to all 99 of the podcasts that came before mine! I'm so honored to be interview #100. I feel like I know Jennifer from so many hours of listening. She is warm and heartfelt and truly interested in finding out how people came to their craft and how they have created their own success. It was a joy talking to Jennifer and I hope you'll enjoy hearing me ramble on about sewing and birds and how this all started.
And in honor of the airing of this podcast, Jennifer will be giving away one of my Springtime birds. Visit her blog to see how to enter. I've never given away a bird before. So exciting!

Hi Abby,
I just “discovered” you on the CraftSanity Podcast. I loved hearing your story–I have a lot of family in the Rockville-Potomac area and just felt like there were a lot of parallels in our lives. I am a knitter and would love to make this into a business venture one day…congratulations on your book and happy crafting! I will follow up on Twitter.

I just finished the podcast- I really enjoyed it 🙂 There were some great tips in there too, the freezer paper, running foot… all things I haven’t tried. It’s so funny how much one learns through the process of just trial & error.
Thanks for sharing!

Abby, Thanks for your great interview on CraftSanity. I have been designing and making softies for years – actually since I was a kid. The past 5 years have seen lots of other artistry, but no soft sculptures. The irony is I have sketchbooks full of ideas, and a closet full of stuffing, fabrics, and trims, and I keep thinking “Some day I’ll sew again”. I think “some day” is now. Thanks for sharing your inspirational story. It has meant so much to me!
