patchwork crab

March 31, 2009

I'm from Maryland originally and I love Maryland crabs.  My birthday is in the beginning of August, high crab season, and I always chose to go to a crab shack to celebrate.  I miss sitting outside on a hot summer evening, mouth on fire from the seasoning, salt and cayenne under my nails, eating that…

goldfish

March 19, 2009

I revisited an old pattern of mine and made a goldfish today.  He came together so nicely.  And I still had a scrap left of the vintage necktie that I had used on the original one. I like the lips on the new one better and I added a solid orange back fin, too.  I…

Gallery Show of Soft Sculpture Birds: Young Blood in Atlanta, GA

March 8, 2009

I’m back and it was an amazing experience.  David and I spent the day on Friday setting everything up and he was so incredibly generous with his time. He built half a dozen shelves from reclaimed wood to display my birds and his smaller paintings. And he brought with him an amazing collection of natural…

see you there!

March 4, 2009

I'm off this afternoon for Atlanta!  I'm so excited, but suddenly I'm afraid I'm going to miss my two little girls an awful lot.  Here is a another small sampling of what I will be exhibiting. Prices will run generally similar to what they've been in my shop.  Please call (404-254-4127) or email Kelly (ybgallery@mindspring.com)…

new color palette

March 2, 2009

A new color palette for the next few months. Orange, navy, cream and gray.  This owl is the first bird in a series of six for a show in the late spring. I love this patchwork fabric. I wrapped his feet with orange thread over the torn strips of cream.  New colors make me happy.

“Birds of a Feather”

February 24, 2009

My show at Young Blood Gallery in Atlanta with the amazing David Hale opens next week on Saturday night, March 7.  I will be there and if you are in the area, I hope you will, too.  I'd love to meet you.  I have made 17 original soft sculpture birds for this show, my most…

Lila: A Cloth Doll

February 24, 2009

I couldn’t resist making another.  This is Lila and she is a little sweetheart.  Her dress is a piece of vintage fabric from my rarely opened box of purple fabrics.  And it is adorned with two vintage garter buttons.  She is up in my shop now. Roxanne and I took part in a kid’s ATC…

Zoe: A Cloth Doll

February 12, 2009

Last night I couldn't resist the urge to  make a doll. Meet Zoe. I first drew up the pattern for this doll nearly two years ago and I always liked her. What a fun project! I love picking fabrics and embellishments for dolls. The choices are nearly endless. Zoe's dress is a lovely green vintage…
