Bulldog, brown mouse and some thrifting

January 9, 2006

We had a nice weekend. Even though Charlie and Roxy were both feeling sick Saturday morning, they managed to make it Tot Time so I got a chance to go thrifting in Waltham. I always find such good stuff at the thrift store on Moody Street and this was no exception – there was a huge box of bias tape, zippers and thread just sitting there when I walked in. I got lots of bias tape in bright colors perfect for making oilcloth bibs for the new baby. In the back of the store there are racks and racks of textiles. I made off with some black and gray wool suiting, some linen, a few pillowcases and this green and blue floral fabric scrap.

On Friday I was feeling really inspired by this beautiful site originally posted by Molly Chicken, especially the gallery of dogs. My first attempt to try one failed miserably. It ended up looking like a huge bread loaf. I took it apart and tried again on Saturday and here is my bulldog.

It was fun to figure out how to make this without a pattern. I’m hoping to use pictures of him as part of my postcards for the Postcard Swap. He is almost entirely made of the wool suiting from the thrift store – yeah, it lasted about 20 min. before I cut into it. And a corner of one of the pillowcases became this guy

The big news on Friday afternoon was that I failed my glucose test. The normal range is 55-139 and I scored a 140, just like with the last pregnancy. Charlie has taken to calling me “extra sweet” and that’s not such a bad nickname.

“Extra sweet”, that’s sweet. Do you have to do a special diet? Your bulldog made me laugh! I don’t know why, he just looks very cute!

You have to stop making such great stuff! I can’t keep coming here everyday and leaving comments – you’re gonna start thinking I’m obsessed!
Love the bulldog. And adore the mouse! And I’m jealous of your thrifting, the shops here are never very good.
