I posted a tutorial to make this little felt bird in flight a year ago today.
With just a few scraps of felt and a bit of time you can make one of these little birds, or maybe a few. I used double-sided fusible web to add some scraps of vintage quilting cotton to this bird’s wings just to make it fancy.
The tutorial gives you step-by-step instructions illustrated with photos, along with a free pdf of the pattern templates. I thought it was worth posting the project again when I saw that Karissa Kloss had made a bunch of these birds to create a mobile for a friend’s baby. This bird mobile will be so cheerful hanging over the crib. Look how pretty!
Thank you for sharing this with me, Karissa! Happy bird making everyone!
The birds are so colorful! Thanks for sharing the tutorial. I really enjoyed reading about the needle felting artist who does picture books, too!
I though of you when I was writing that post, Laurie!!
Brava!

Hi,
The tutorial link was lost when I moved my site from Typepad to WordPress.Thank you for pointing it out! I’ve fixed it now. Happy sewing!
Hello! I’m so glad j found this. I was looking to make a bird mobile for a friends baby and i wanted one where the baby would actually enjoy the shapes more (so many are 2D and designed where the baby only sees the undersides of the animals). I loved the wings on these birds. I’ve just ordered some multicoloured felt and am going to try making these!
Awesome!
