Back in the Swing of Things

May 4, 2006

Well, I’ve been a mother of two for nine days and it’s been overwhelming, but I’m getting the hang of it now and I feel like my feet are back on the ground. Simon is an awesome baby – an efficient nurser, a total cutie pie, and great sleeper to boot (keep your fingers crossed that this keeps up!).

I’m not all that sleep deprived yet, although it has helped that Charlie is still home from work and lets me nap when I need to. We’ll see how next week goes when he goes back and I’m on my own. I know I’ll cry on Monday morning.

In the crafty realm, I am starting to prepare a basket of soft toys for a charity auction in early June. I’m so glad I commited to this months ago because it has pushed me to get back to the sewing machine. This black lamb is the first item that will go in.

I’m hoping to make a sweater bear, maybe a frog and a mouse, and a few other surprises.

Roxanne has had a rough week and a half. I really feel for her. It is so hard to suddenly have to share mom and dad’s attention. Charlie’s mom brought her an adorable life-like baby doll to care for, but she won’t touch it (literally). Instead, she is happily nursing “big fat rat” her favorite toy.

She came with us to Simon’s one week doctor’s visit and was just beside herself that she didn’t get to have a turn being examined by the doctor. I feel like with every passing day, though, she is getting used to the way things are now. As she will tell you, “Mommy has room for both her girls.”

Those are gorgeous pics. I’m glad to hear things are going well and I completely sympathize with your dread at the hubby going to work. Scary, right? But you’ll be fine 🙂 The basket sounds like a great project. And I’m sorry to hear about the troubles for the Big Sister. I’m dreading that issue with my son when his baby sister is born. Oh well- one thing at a time.

    Such a pretty baby!
My son did the same thing when baby #2 came along. Every time I picked her up he had to be in my lap, which I did and about the second week he was completely ok with things.

She is so tiny and so cute. I still get sad on Monday morning when Chris goes off to work. But we look forward to the help on the weekends. Good luck.

You have such sweet and beautiful children! I recently had my second girl when my first was 17 months old. It took a little while for her to get used to but as long as i included her in everything i did she was fine. She’s a great little helper now.

That is one gorgeous baby. And the big sister will adjust! She’s a little mommy- look at her nursing her rat! 🙂
When we brought our Nora home it took 13 days before Jack would literally touch her at all. On day 15 he held her. It was the sweetest thing ever.

Hang in there! My oldest asked me one morning with all the seriousness a two-year-old can muster why we couldn’t keep her baby sister in the dog kennel. I suppose she thought the baby would be safe in there and that I’d be able to give her all my attention once more. It does get easier–especially as the older one learns what an important job it is to be a big sister and what a big help she can be to mommy! I loved never having to go find a diaper myself!
